5. Alumnus Robert Ketchum’s Work On Display In
Venice Beach
Jan 14th - Mar 2nd
Alumnus Robert Ketchum’s work is
on display in Venice Beach. Catch
the latest exhibits of an esteemed
alumnus, who according to the
Huffington Post is, “…our generation’s
Ansel Adams”.
Mr. Ketchum has been acknowledged
by Audubon magazine as one of
the 100 people “…who shaped the
environmental movement of the 20th
century.”
He is one of only five artists
recognized by American Photo’s
“American Masters” series, sharing
the company of Annie Leibovitz. Mr.
Ketchum’s truly breathtaking nature
photography will be exhibited at
the G2 Gallery in Venice Beach from
January 14 - March 2.
Fun fact - Mr. Ketchum is a third
generation Bruin whose father
played basketball under coach
John Wooden, and played when
UCLA first triumphed over Cal and
USC.
For more details on the exhibit,
please visit The G2 Gallery.
Visit Mr. Ketchum’s website for

6. An Evening with Brendon Ayanbadejo
Distinguished Speaker Recap
On Thursday, January 23rd the Westside Network officially launched our Distinguished
Speaker Series. Westside alumni and friends braved traffic to hear from our first
speaker, Super Bowl XLVII Champion and award-winning marriage equality advocate
Brendon Ayanbadejo
Brendon captivated the audience with his compelling life story. Some of the highlights
included:
•
How growing up a child of mixed race not long after the ban on miscegenation
laws influenced his commitment to equality.
•
How his involvement in the anti-Prop 209 movement while a student at UCLA
impacted his ability to break into the NFL.
•
How he was inspired by Brittany Spears (seriously).
•
How he consciously used his platform going in to Super Bowl XLVII to raise
awareness and advocate for marriage equality.
•
The next chapter of his professional life – Orangetheory Fitness and continued
advocacy.
Overall Brendon’s story was one of overcoming adversity and doing the right thing,
and for that Westsiders gave this True Bruin a standing ovation at the conclusion of his
talk. In addition to his inspiring speech, Brendon also answered audience questions for
about 30 minutes, and graciously took photos and signed autographs for EVERYONE in
attendance.
Reviews of the event have been overwhelmingly positive. The only complaints have
been traffic and parking, but this is West L.A. and we can only do so much. If you
weren’t able to join us for this amazing evening, the good news is that we have photos
and videos on the way.
