This tutorial explains the steps for researching property records on the Kane County Recorder's Website for Kane County, Illinois. The tutorial is focused on assisting those searching for city of Geneva records.
8. We will now go through an example of researching a section of land Therefore you will concentrate on the lower half of the webpage as shown on the next slide

10. Click through the choices at the bottom for the township (Geneva), section number, and quarter section you are researching. Then click the first page in the last column. This will immediately take you to a track book page similar to the one shown on the next slide

12. The next slide shows a view of this same page with a zoomed view

14. On this page you can see an entry for the city of Geneva as Grantee for this parcel. (The document type is a QCD or quit claim deed)
15. By reading across this row, you can determine the document number, book/page number, grantor, grantee, document type, date of document, date of recording, and description summary
16. You can transcribe this information and place the URL into your database
17. We will now go through an example of researching a subdivision Therefore you will concentrate on the upper half of the webpage as shown on the next slide

24. By reading across this row, you can determine the document number, book/page number, grantor, grantee, document type, date of document, date of recording, lots, and description summary
25. Now, we will search for sections of land with documents dated between 1982 and the present
26. In the left sidebar, click “Advanced” This brings up a page like the one on the next slide

28. Let’s search first for the grantor in the section of land we are researching We are looking for The city of Geneva as a grantor And we are looking at Section 3 Township 39 Range 8, the NE quarter section
29. Once you have input your search parameters, click “Search” at the top of the page. This will take you to the results of your search. The page will be similar to that on the next sheet.

31. Although you can see a lot of the document info here, you can also click the paperclip to bring up the actual document. The URL to be placed in the database is the URL of the actual document. You should also go back and follow through these same steps looking for the city as the grantee
32. Now we will search the newer records (between the years 1982 and the present) for records in a subdivision. Go back to the “Advanced” choice in the menu at the left. This will bring you to a page similar to that on the next slide

34. Let’s search first for the grantor in the section of land we are researching We are looking for The city of Geneva as a grantee And we are looking at Westhaven Subdivision Note: to get the subdivision code, see the next slide
35. To find the subdivision code to be used as the search parameter, click “Lookup Subdivision Codes” under the box where you input the code. This brings up a window shown on the next slide where you can search for your subdivision and find the code

37. Once you have all your search parameters in place, click “Search” at the top of the page. This will bring up a page similar to that shown on the next slide.
