Western music was introduced to South Korea between 1920-1950, leading the country to adopt some aspects of Western music. K-pop trainees undergo an apprenticeship that often lasts two years, during which they hone their voices, learn choreography, sculpt their bodies, and study multiple languages. While K-pop culture has become popular worldwide, some in South Korea fear it could lead to an excessive preference for Korean styles over local cultures.
