Top 10 obvious tips for your appliances you may be ignoring
1. Top 10 seemingly “obvious” tips you can apply to
keep you equipment fresh.
We are sure you have
heard these a million
times, but here is a
friendly reminder from
your BQ2 family on a few
things that are keeping
your equipment under
the weather
2. Power cuts
When power returns
after a power cut it goes
through a surge
condition and the tidal
wave that ensues may
damage any appliances
left unplugged. In case of
power cuts, unplug all
your appliances to keep
them safe
3. Maintenance
Preventative
maintenance allows you
to identify and fix faults
before they grow large
and bring down your
whole appliance and
keeping moving
lubricated will help them
last longer
4. Sharp objects
There is no place for
sharp objects in your
appliance cleaning
arsenal. Allow ice to
defrost naturally and use
recommended chemicals
to deal with build up of
grime. Sharp objects
damage vital internal
parts such as pipes and
leave nasty scratches
5. Breathing space
Your HVAC&R
equipment works by
driving in air from fresh
sources and chocking it
by putting it in confined
spaces stresses it. Other
equipment that have
cooling mechanisms like
fans run the risk of
sucking debris and
particulates form their
surroundings
6. Power supply
Ensure that your
appliances are not
plugged into a
overloaded adapter, as
this may lead to excess
heat responsible for
melted plugs and in
extreme cases electric
fires
7. Poor seals
Establishing a tight seal is
important for your equipment
working optimally. Leaks may
lead to waste of water of cooled
air, so report and repair leaks
fast, do not leave refrigeration
doors open for long and ensure
that you are not letting your
air-conditioned air escape in
exchange for warmer air. This
makes your equipment work
unnecessarily faster and break
down more often
8. Poor sized units
Mismatching units and
intended use is the leading
cause of breakdowns.
Before purchase or
installation, make sure the
unit is not too small, or big
for its intended use.
Overloading your fridge,
washer, or HVAC unit is a
sure way to demand
beyond its capacity and cut
its life-span short
9. Thermostats and temp regulation
Adjusting your thermostat
regulates the intervals that your
motor runs and as such regularly
adjusting it increases the strain on
the motor and affects its life span.
Choose an optimal setting with
your the help of your technician
and stick to it. Regards your HVAC,
ensure your preferred temperature
does not vary too widely with
prevailing temperatures as this also
strains your units
10. Shoddy workmanship
Perhaps the most obvious on
the list, having your
equipment repaired by a
workman who’s not sure
about what he’s doing or
taking short cuts will not only
result in a temporary fix that
will come back to haunt you
but when the problem
returns it does so bigger and
worse, usually with new
friends to join the party.
Think of long run
implications and invest in
doing the right thing right,
first time round
11. Particulates and blockages
All your appliances and
equipment will need
some form of gas or fluid
to do their job and it is
important to ensure all
plumbing is open. To
ensure this search
laundry before loading it
and ensure equipment
has access to clean air
