This document summarizes the history management services provided by Adidas. It discusses:
1) The development of Adidas' archive from a sport shoe museum (1979-1994) to its first archive (1998-2012) to its current archive since 2012 which is 266 square meters and stores over 85,000 objects.
2) The services provided including cataloging objects, research, exhibitions like the Walk of Fame, handling loan requests from external and internal exhibitions, and communicating about Adidas history through various channels.
3) New digital services including an archive search tool since 2012 and a public website called AdidasArchive launched in February 2013.

Adi dassler‘sresearchcollection in the 1920s was thestartofthearchivethatbecamehistorymanagement.Adi collected a vastarrayofshoes, some innovative andsomethatdidntwork out. He would send designersandtechnicianstohiscollectionforinspirationandtoseeiftheycouldsolveoldproblemswithnewtechnology.Adi showing guests his collection (passionate about his company).

KarlHeinz Lang, who worked with Adi, went looking for an old shoe in the adidas HQ. In a basement under the it department he found not just the shoe but adi’s whole collection. He moved it to Scheinfeld and built the first archive.
The historymanagementteambegan in 2008. Ithasnowgrownto 20 employees.The firstjobswereto bring structuretothecollectionandstarttocatalogue.
