water. Do you?
52% of families do not have an emergency rally
point (ERP). Do you?
48% of people have no emergency supplies. Do

27. During an emergency,
a text message
has a better chance getting
through than a voice call.
28. IRP stands for Immediate Rally Point
This is a point outside of your home/work/school where your
team can gather if they have to evacuate for some reason. The
most likely reason for this would be if there was a fire. It
needs to be a place that’s easily identifiable and not far from
the home/work/school and everyone can find in the dark.
It’s also the place where your A-Team will rendezvous if
they can’t go into the home/work/school for whatever reason,
but need to assemble from other locations, such as school
and/or work.
A street intersection works well. Or a nearby building.
29. ERP stands for Emergency Rally Point
It is where everyone will assemble if they can’t
get to the IRP or home. This is also where your
A-Team will rendezvous if they have to evacuate
the home/work/school during a moderate or
extreme emergency and have to stay remote for
at least a day or more, with the possibility of not
returning to the home.
31. The Rule of Three.
We can last 3 minutes without air.
We can last 3 days without water.
We can last 3 weeks without food.
32. Do not store water in containers not
designed to hold food/water.
The following recycle #s are good:
#1 (PETE)
#2 (HDPE)
#4 (LDPE)
#5 (PP)
However, avoid thin plastic, such as
milk containers as they can leak.
33. Avoid bottled water. Most is simply city
water put into a bottle. Also, bottled
water contains micro plastics that you
are ingesting every time you drink it.
Drink filtered tap water.
Besides, the bottles are terrible for the
environment.
34. FOOD EXPIRATION TERMS:
SELL BY: How long a store should display the product for sale.
It is optimum quality date, but food is still edible for a while after.
BEST IF USED BY OR BEFORE DATE: This is only about
quality, not safety.
GUARANTEED FRESH DATE: This usually refers to bakery
items. They will still be edible after that date.
USE BY DATE: This is the last recommended day to use the
product at peak quality. It is still edible after this.
PACK DATE: This is on canned and packaged goods. It can be
done by month-day-year as MMDDYY. Or it could be Julian
calendar for the year, which means January is 001-0031.
December would be 334-365.
35. Foods not to eat past their
expiration date:
Eggs; deli meat; mixed greens;
alfalfa sprouts; oysters;
shrimp; raw ground beef;
berries; soft cheese; chicken.
36. Water is powerful. Moving water is
dangerous.
The force formula is:
Water velocity X 2= Water force X 4
Thus if you double the velocity of water, it
becomes four times more powerful.
Six inches of moving water will knock you
over.
Twelve inches can sweep away a car.
37. 550 cord is a very useful item.
Excellent for making ‘dummy
cords’: ie you tie off all essential
gear (compass, map, cell
phone, etc) to you. When cutting
550 cord, use a lighter to melt
the cut ends to keep them from
unraveling.
38. n the water is the equivalent of a seat
Always have it on.
43. If You Get Lost, Immediately STOP
Many people panic and make the situation worse.
THINK: How did you get here? What landmarks do you
remember?
Do not move until you have a specific reason.
OBSERVE: Get oriented. Which direction is north?
If you are on a trail or road stay on it.
Roads and trails are built to take advantage of the
easiest route.
PLAN: Before moving make sure you have a plan.
Think the plan through. Are there other options?
If you are not confident in your plan, stay in place.
44. Tire inflation is key to good traction.
Know and check proper inflation.
