Corporate Insight's 2015 Monitor Awards are out! The awards honor financial services firms for excellence in the online user experience they offer prospects, clients and advisors. Throughout the month of February, we will be releasing a series of slide decks highlighting the firms that received Gold Monitor Awards. Each of the nine slide decks will focus on a specific industry within financial services.

3. Corporate Insight is pleased to present our fourteenth annual Monitor Awards report, offering a broad
benchmarking of the asset management industry across several key sectors. This year, we awarded gold,
silver and bronze medals in six categories: Public Homepage, Investor Performance Reporting,
Retirement Centers, Product Pages, Fund Screeners and Educational Resources.
As in past years, the Gold Medal is reserved for offerings that provide an exceptionally valuable service.
For features that offer similar value but lack some of the outstanding attributes and functions of the best
offerings, we award a Silver Medal. For features that offer a useful or unique service but do not meet
the highest standards for a given category, we award a Bronze Medal.

5. The public homepage is a website’s face to the world – the place where investors form first impressions.
Homepages play a critical role in in engaging clients and prospects. As such, it is essential for firms to
provide a well-balanced, attractive homepage that incorporates a solid selection of links to features and
promotions. We evaluated homepages on the quality of design, accessibility to key features, product
marketing and promotions and updates and new information.
Franklin Templeton places in this category
for the first time ever and is allotted the
gold medal for its public investor
homepage. The public homepage was
overhauled during the firm’s December
2015 website revamp and now includes
an exceptional example of responsive
design and increased emphasis on
product promotions. A new search option,
updated main menu and intuitively placed
links offer improved accessibility.

6. While public homepages are important for appealing to clients and prospects, it is equally important
that private homepages impress current account holders, as their appearance and functionality is
extremely key to the user experience. Private site landing pages serve as windows into investors’
accounts. This category applauds firms that offer private homepages that employ a logical layout, easy-
to-follow navigation, and pertinent account details. This year, we graded firms on clarity and depth of
account information, design and layout, customization options and accessibility to account maintenance
tasks and personal information.
OppenheimerFunds takes the gold medal this year for
their exceptional private homepage. The account
landing page features clearly labeled access to
account maintenance tasks, rich performance
information and intuitive organization. Private
homepages make an immediate impression upon
login, while the most notable feature is an interactive
performance chart that tracks account value across
the YTD, one and three years, and since inception.

7. Performance reporting is a critical feature to account holders reviewing their portfolio online, and firms
vary in the options and features provided to investors. Account performance data should offer investors
an overview of their financial health in a manner that is easy to comprehend and locate. For this
category we considered the accessibility of portfolio performance data, as well as its content and
presentation. Value-added elements such as customizability of data, educational callouts and graphical
illustrations helped firms receive top awards.
Vanguard receives the gold medal for a third year in a
row for their comprehensive personal performance
data. Personal performance data remains unchanged
from our last review, however no coverage group
firms implemented superior features this year, leaving
Vanguard in the stop slot. A key strength to Vanguard’s
performance information is its generous selection of
customizable data points that allow investors to
review information in multiple ways.

8. Product pages are an important space to educate investors about a fund’s key selling points such as
anticipated expenses and fees, performance data and portfolio composition. These pages need to be
informative enough to educate both seasoned and novice investors on a fund’s most critical points. We
look for fund firms that provide well-designed product pages that communicate pertinent information in
a logical manner. Value-added features such as rollover capabilities, educational callout balloons,
customizable charts and dynamic, interactive displays also helped firms gain top accolades.
Fidelity is awarded the gold medal for offering
product pages that are characterized by detailed fund
data, specifically on risk measures, as well as a clearly
organized format that intuitively places information
across five tabs. Many terms with which investors may
be unfamiliar with are hyperlinked to balloon tip
definitions. Product pages include several value-added
features, including a watch list that provides investors
with information on products and how they stand
relative to both Fidelity and competitor funds. Fidelity
also stands out for providing clear data on fees for its
funds, hosted in the Fees & Distributions tab.

9. Investors of all ages place great value on retirement planning, and retirement-focused business
generates a substantial portion of mutual fund firms’ business. To meet clients’ needs, many firms create
dedicated retirement centers that provide educational resources explaining retirement investing and
promote relevant funds. Typical material range from discussions of life-stage investing to promotions for
rollover services. In our evaluation of retirement resources, we looked for clearly organized outlets of
information that effectively promote IRAs and retirement-related products. We assessed firms on the
accessibility and centralization, quality and variety of provided resources, strength of IRA and 401(k)
option comparisons, tools and calculators and account promotion.
Fidelity solidifies its position in the top spot for the
fifth consecutive year. The firm provides rich
retirement-focused content in the form of educational
pages and guides, timely commentaries and a robust
collection of tools. This year the firm reworked its
private Planning & Guidance Center for account
holders, but otherwise made no material changes to
its retirement features. Fidelity organizes information
by audience depending on their life stage, with
retirement resources available across the Research,
Guidance & Retirement and Investment Products tabs.

10. Many investors and prospects implement a self-directed approach towards managing their finances
online. Our review defines client support as information that educates investors on services and
technological matters, including Contact Us and Help sections, as well as FAQ pages. Fund firms that
offer viewers clear access, robust details, and guidance on help matters received the highest scores. Our
review assessed prominent accessibility, ease of navigation and intuitive presentation, depth of help
details and depth of Contact Us information.
American Funds earns this year’s gold medal for its
well-positioned and extremely informative client
support features, prominently housed within the
Service & Support tab. The firm places a heightened
level of importance on client support, and is the only
firm to dedicate a tab to these resources. Information
is presented through easy-to-follow guides, checklists,
and FAQ pages that help investors with all account and
technological issues they may encounter.
