September 2008 to July 2012 - University of Portsmouth
BSc (HONS) Biochemistry (class 2:2)
Course contents:
• Biotechnology and microbiology
• Biochemistry
• Genomics and Molecular Biology
• Developmental Biology
Laboratory experience gained (University):
• Extensive experience at carrying out PCR
• Extensive experience at isolating plasmid DNA
• Experience at X-ray crystallography
• Experience at NMR (The effect of titrating ligand on chemical shift )
• Experience at immune assays (including ELISA )
• Bacterial transformation
• Protein and DNA purification
• Protein Expression
• Experience at working in a microbiology laboratory
Project experience gained (University):
While working on my project to develop an experimental procedure to isolate Plasmid DNA by using
Cobalt Nanoparticles, I gained valuable experience in the transformation and cultivation of bacteria.
My project developed my research and analytic skills as I had to research what reagents would be
suitable to use in the isolation experiments. When the results from my isolation experiments were
available I had to investigate how to improve the procedure I had developed by analysing the results I
obtained and compare it to past research on extracting DNA with Nanoparticles.
2005 to 2008 – New College Swindon
Achieved A levels:
• Biology (B)
• Chemistry (B)
• Mathematics (C)
Completion of second level European Computer Driving Licence (ECDL) computer course

SKILLS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
I have a wide knowledge of different Microbial and Biochemical techniques which i have developed
through my career and studies at the University of Portsmouth.
whilst at University during term holidays I would help with a research project on Aptomer binding to
single wall Carbon Nanotubes and over the summer holiday period gaining additional knowledge and
experience of HP-LC.
When i was at University I developed and refined a new method for precipitation DNA with magnetic
nanoparticle for my project. I also have experience of carrying out many analytical techniques
including SDS-PAGE, gel electrophoresis, HP-LC and Western Blot.
During my employment at Abbott Diabetes Care I have developed, along with a colleague, a new
procedure for testing blood at a different Ph. I had to work on my own initiative ensuring at all times
the procedure adhered to the company’s compliance standards.
While I have been working for Eurofins i have developed my skill in Pharamacokinetic assays (ELISA),
alongside my paper based skills by helping to improve/update company SOPs, batch records and
analytical procedure. One such example was the development of a process to monitor critical
reagents used in main stream assays.
I have enthusiastically engaged in a multiple projects helping out where i can within the company and
can demonstrate good time management and organisational skills. I am able to listen and carry out
instructions given and work happily in a team or by myself.
