It lets you stream and record lectures or presentations. Virtual Classroomss is our integrated web conferencing tool. It lets you engage in real-time discussions with smaller groups of learners over video. Video Assignment is our integrated video assessment tool. - We all know this is a great idea. But if you’ve tried using web conferencing – you know it’s hard. That’s why we don’t do more of it. The administrative tasks are just too much a hassle: Managing Calendar invites; Entering Email addresses; Recording and Uploading sessions. So you just end up not doing it.
- What about video in education? Video in education has proven benefits, and it makes sense in all kinds of ways. Here are just a few of the benefits listed, but we know that it improves learning and better engage learners. We know it presents instructional content using media that is easily consumed and digested. And we know it allows instructors to reach a wider audience of learners (e.g. distance ed), as well as to take advantage of new trends in education – such as blended learning or classroom flipping. - In Higher Education, we see more and more institutions are realizing these benefits. The most recent Campus Computing Survey study shows the continued growth of video in HE: video lecture is growing across all types of HE institutions. This is increasingly important for HE institutions as they deliver Hybrid, Flipped, and Online courses. Clearly, there is a need for video in education. - When you don’t have the right tools, or the resources to teach these skills, it’s hard to do. Traditional assessments are often written response, true/false, or multiple choice with one right answer. Those types of assessments may work well for evaluating certain types of knowledge, but they don’t do as good a job testing application of learned skills. --- Sometimes there are assessments that do evaluate these effectively: speeches, presentations, role-plays, etc. However these often require traditional classroom settings with in-person attendance. That means there’s only so much time that can be dedicated to actually practicing and assessing these skills, and only so much time an instructor can devote to providing feedback. It becomes even more difficult as the class size increases. Maybe group presentations happen instead of individuals to save on time. Maybe only certain students get to participate in role plays while the others observe. --- In any case: teaching and assessing these skills is difficult; even more so in an online-only environment.
