2. LESSON: Interview Skills

OBJECTIVE:

Learnerswill practice their speaking skills and
vocabulary skills in preparation for a job interview
Learners will distinguish between appropriate and
inappropriate behaviour
RATIONALE:
- Job hunting skills are important for newcomers to
Canada. Practicing different scenarios, possible
questions asked and appropriate responses will help
learners become familiar with the process and gain
the confidence they need to acquire a job.
3. STEPS:
Activation

Brainstorm a list of vocabulary words on the board
related to jobs and discuss the meaning of the
words

Make a second list of possible questions on the
board
and discuss the meaning

Discuss inappropriate questions for an interviewer
to ask
- Discuss appropriate and inappropriate body
language and dress code when going for an
interview
4. Demonstration
-
Learners will watch a video on appropriate
and inappropriate body language during an
interview, dress code, and possible questions
and answers on a job interview

- Discuss the video and address any questions
learners have
5. Application

Learners will work in pairs or groups of three,
taking turns being the interviewer and the
interviewee (after the learners have had time
to practice, they can present their role playing
dialogue in front of the class

The list of questions brainstormed on the
board can be used until they get comfortable
enough to create their own (they have to first
be checked for suitability by the facilitator)
6. Integration

The learners and facilitator provide feedback
and discuss any confusion or doubts they
may still have

The learners are given the opportunity to
reflect on their experience and ask questions
