“ Standards for 3-D information and virtual worlds are being developed (Web 3D Consortium, 2008), and the 1st publicized transport of an avatar from one virtual world to another recently occurred (Reuters, 2008). Virtual worlds offer the promise of becoming a truly integrated part of the information seeking landscape.” Margaret Ostrander, 2008. “Talking, looking, flying, searching: information seeking behaviour in Second Life”Library Hi-Tech, 26(4)
Virtual world librarianship provides significant benefits in distance learning, reaching nonusers, communicating and collaborating with international communities, recruiting students, and greater accessibility for disabled users. For librarians VWL provides opportunities for continuous professional development, research, and collaboration with faculty, students, and colleagues at a distance.
