1. 2D Game Characters
Sonic
Sonic originally got into the gaming scene in 1991 on
the Sega Megadrive and was the main character for
SEGA and is still just as popular now as it ever has
with its most recent release of Sonic generations, it
has also done many crossovers with its competitor
Mario.
Mario
Mario Bros. Was made in 1983 but didn’t really go anywhere
until Super Mario Bros. In 1985 and has followed the same
theme for 27 Years that Princess Toadstool has been kidnapped
by the evil bowser and Mario must rescue her. Many of the
characters in Mario have had their own games and are
successful because they are from a well known franchise e.g.
Luigis Mansion.
Pokemon Trainer
All 2D pokemon games put you in the position of a Pokemon
Trainer who has to stop an evil team *Usually Team Rocket;
and save Pokemon. Much like the others this pattern is
repeated and it has success and still has its own
merchandise, games and TV shows being made of it. The first
pokemon game was on 1996 on the Game Boy.

2. Castle Crashers
Castle Crashers was released on Xbox
Live Arcade in 2008 with releases onto
the Playstation Network and Steam in the
recent years it is a unique fantasy world
in medieval times and you rescue 4
princesses and play as 4 knights (More
have been recently added) it utilises the
co-op feature to enable fun party play
with friends which most games leave out.

Link from the Legend of Zelda is the main Hero in the
legend of Zelda series, he is the elf who wonders around
Hyrule and has to fight the evil Ganon to save Princess
Zelda. First released in 1986 on the NES (Nintendo
Entertainment System) it is still being made and
developed on the newest Nintendo consoles.
YUGIOH
The player in Yu-Gi-Oh Forbidden memories is the only one
who can save Egypt from Heishin and really gives the player a
sense of achievent through near impossible challenges and
rewarding gameplay although the game is in 2D it is no less
capturing then any other 3D game.With a release spanning 3
years 1999-2002; this game still has a following on different
websites and is still recognised as one of the best 2D games
ever made.

Battletoads
Contra
Contra/ the character you play in Contra is one
of my favourite 2D games because it was extremely gruelling but rewarding
because it was the first game that popularised the Konami
code.
(UP,UP,DOWN,DOWN,LEFT,RIGHT,LEFT,RIGHT,B,A,START)
This created something that will be remembered for a long
time amongst gamers worldwide.
TMNT: Turtles In Time
The teenage mutant ninja turtles or TMNT as they are
easily known featured in the arcade hit title; ‘Teenage
Mutant Ninja Turtles: Turtles In Time’. It served as a
sequel to Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles III :The
Manhattan Project, this is why it was given IV in the title
when it was ported onto the Super Nintendo
Entertainment System or SNES otherwise it would have
seemed out of place.
Battletoads
Battletoads was set to rival the TMNT with three
anthropomorphic toads named after skin conditions (Rash,
Zitz and Pimple) I personally preferred the Gameboy
Version because of its extreme difficulty and its pure
entertainment value compared to other Gameboy games
which stuck to the simplicity that the Gameboy was
naturally perceived as being but this proved otherwise.
