Before the world was introduced to the first Sony PlayStation, it
was the tail-end of a gaming console war that pitted the two
companies that defeated the mighty Atari in the ‘80s. Nintendo
and SEGA started their rivalry with the 8-bit battle of Nintendo
Entertainment System and the SEGA Master System and
progressed toward the 16-bit contest between the Super NES
and SEGA Genesis. However, things were to change soon
enough.

smoother than any game on any previous console. The evolution
from cartridge to disc was the game changer as more information
could be stored, meaning full-motion videos could be
incorporated into games. This also meant that games would be
and feel exponentially bigger than before.

Gamers were treated to open worlds that were 3D, giving game
exploration a whole new meaning. Video game giants such as
Capcom, Konami, Squaresoft, and Namco all shared their
flagship games as well as new innovative titles with Sony and
created a myriad of experiences in gaming that set the standard
for decades to come.
The gaming experience gamers feel now owe it all to that very
first PlayStation, the console that revolutionized gaming.
