  14. 14. Global Data Strategy, Ltd. 2022 www.globaldatastrategy.com What is Digital Transformation? • Digital transformation can refer to anything from IT modernization (for example, cloud computing), to digital optimization, to the invention of new digital business models. • The term is widely used in public-sector organizations to refer to modest initiatives such as putting services online or legacy modernization. Thus, the term is more like “digitization” than “digital business transformation.” - Gartner Information Technology Glossary 7

Business insights from data will continue to be a driver, with a stronger focus on advanced techniques such as data science and advanced analytics. 4. Data Governance will continue to play a strong role, with a concomitant increase in related initiatives such as master data management, metadata management, etc. 5. Investment in Data Management will continue, with an emergence of new technology players supporting increased demand for tools such as data catalog, data quality, cloud data platforms, etc.

  24. 24. Global Data Strategy, Ltd. 2022 www.globaldatastrategy.com Top 5 Predictions for 2022 and Beyond 17 1. Self-Service Reporting and BI will morph into Business-driven Data Governance as organizations see the need to build trusted data sets. 2. Data Literacy will rise to buzzword status, but organizations will struggle with what that means, i.e. how “technical” to get for the average “citizen data analyst”. 3. Digital Transformation will begin to become a Business As Usual (BaU) way of doing business. 4. The “Cloud First” Database approach will continue to grow, with the relational database continuing to be an unsung hero driving the majority of usage. 5. Database platforms will become more “Best of Breed”, i.e. “both-and”, rather than “either or” as platforms mix the best of relational, columnar, data lake storage, etc. (e.g. Data Lakehouse).
