2. Dawlish Learning Partnership Olympic Project“The London 2012 Cultural Olympiad is the largest cultural celebration in the history of the modern Olympic and Paralympic Movements. 4. Each School chooses a country to represent for all aspects of theprojectThis could be a basis of a school wide topic for the Summer Term!
5. Olympic Sports DayVenue – Exeter Arena 15-20 Children from each school practice a range of Olympic events over the summer term. They then compete against the other schools at the Olympic Sports Day. Possibly year 10/11 GCSE PE students form DCC could lead each event.
6. Closing CeremonyVenue – Great Hall, Exeter UniversityAll schools work throughout the summer term to produce a musical performance or dance in the style of their chosen country.The University of Plymouth have agreed to help this sending 3rd/4th year BEd Music specialists students into schools to support the class teacher. They will also organise students to marshal the event on the day.Each school to include up to 40 children.
7. Closing CeremonyThe closing ceremony will act as a music, dance and cultural celebration as well as an awards ceremony for the Olympic Sports Day. Video footage of the sports day will be played on a screen at the back of the stage.Medals will be handed to the children while the national anthem of their chosen country is played.To link the different school performances, an Olympic flame will be passed from one school to the next.
8. Closing CeremonyAll children involved in the project will sing together at the beginning and end of the concert.They will sing – - Proud – Heather Small (Official song of the Olympic Bid).- The official song of London 2012 – Yet to be announced.
9. Art ProjectVenue – individual schoolsChildren from each school will produce art work based on their chosen country to be displayed on the big screen at the back of the stage.An artist will also come into each school to work with a group of around 30 children for the day to produce a large banner that represents their school to be put up at the sides of the stage.
