Sirca, Sydney
(Contract)
Oct 2014 – Feb 2015
Cloud Engineer
User Management System
Sirca required a massively scalable UMS to
protect their solutions and data. As part of the
engagement I uplifted and rectified their UMS
system using ForgeRock and enabled a further
integration to Azure AD.
This enabled the delivery Azure security in an
Amazon Web Services cloud environment
giving them massively scalable solutions.
CGU, Melbourne
(Contract)
May 2012 – July 2014
BPM & SOA Specialist
Product Enablement
Provide CGU with IBM WebSphere ESB and
Lombardi BPM specialist skills to install and
enable BPM design and runtime solutions. This
enabled CGU to provide a quicker turnaround
on product definition and delivery into the
insurance market and to more efficiently
deliver, monitor and improve business process
and service delivery.
Work Management Solution(s)
Design and Implement a BPM workflow
solution(s) to track and coordinate back office
policy quote and account handling. This
involved the modelling of the work
management practices of CGU underwriters
and the definition and construction of the
workflow tasks, screens, data structures
required to execute the model within the
Lombardi BPM product space. This enabled DB
Results to demonstrate their BPM capabilities
to the CGU group and to successfully deliver a
pilot solution that enabled DB Results to
become the trusted BPM solution provider to
CGU.
Requirements Management
Migrate requirements management to Sparx
UML and Atlassian JIRA tool sets. This involved
moving the requirements out of spread sheets
and word documents and managing them in a
more open and agile requirements
management approach. This enabled a faster
turn around on requirements definition and
validation enabling a quicker time to build on
requirements capture.
Delivery Pipeline
Define the process and construct the tooling to
enable an efficient and effective software
delivery pipeline for BPM solutions. This
included the enablement of a methodology
and a continuous integration solution to
ensure the timeliness and quality of the
solution was improved. This enabled CGU to
start to manage multiple projects of the one
resource base and technology set.
5. David Edson - BPM, SOA & SDLC Specialist
Page 2
Framework and Toolkits
Harvest and generalise service capabilities and
product enhancements and augmentation into
a common CGU application toolkit for BPM.
This packaged and distributed the one
common toolset and integration framework to
multiple business consumers. This shortened
the delivery time and repeatability of service
component delivery by generalising service
components into pre tested capabilities. This
also allowed for a faster time to delivery on
new products that could harvest the
capabilities and re purpose them. It created a
library of existing capabilities that are
published to entice new business unites to get
on board the BPM train.
Change Management
Enabled and Embraced the Agile JIRA
methodology for service delivery and issue
management. This restructured the team
approach to use an agile delivery methodology
to allow a more efficient and prioritised
delivery of service components and services.
By allowing the most important activities to
bubble to the top of the delivery teams
attention, the most valuable and the highest
risk components are identified and realised
early in the delivery and the risk is managed in
a more effective and visible manner.
Infrastructure Management
Define and construct an artefact, deployment
and configuration artefact management
approach, framework and tooling to enable an
efficient and controlled deployment of a
solution in a reliable manner to multiple
environments. This enabled Runtime
Environment Variables and deployment
endpoint configuration using common tooling
and APIs to allow simple configuration and
deployment to different environments with
predictable and manageable outcomes. As a
result the solution could be promoted to
higher environments with the assurance that
solution quality was maintained and improved.
Product Augmentation
Extend and augment the IBM BPM product
capability to closer meet the customer
expectation for an out of the box solution. This
increased the uptake and ability for CGU to
consume BPM as an enterprise capability
Competency Centre Enablement
Define roles, responsibilities and skills required
to effectively build and run a BPM software
solution Competency Centre. This involved the
definition, acquisition, training and
certification of team capabilities to deliver and
support BPM services to CGU stakeholders.
This enabled CGU to provide a BPM
Competency Centre that now handles 4
concurrent streams of project and service
delivery. This transfers ownership of the skills
and operational effectiveness to CGU to own
as an internal business capability.
DB Results
DB Results is a strategy and service delivery
consultancy delivering services into the
telecommunications and utilities industries.
IBM Lombardi BPM customer growth –
Through the enablement of the BPM CC and
project delivery at CGU, DBResults now has a
solid representation in the finance industry
with the CGU as their largest customer. This
has opened up a whole new industry segment
for CGU and provided them with a solid
revenue stream to grow the business with.

SAP services and capabilities. This provides for
a quicker delivery on product definition to
implementation timeframes and leverages and
extends existing services and solutions.
Dialogue Integration
Integrate template driven document
generation with IBM WESB and thus Lombardi
BPM services. This provides template driven or
serialised document generation as a service
from BPM orchestration and thus centralised
the CBA capabilities and product portfolio
offerings inside the BPM space.
Oracle Integration
CBA as an extensive library of Oracle data,
data types and stored procedures. This
solution created a generic IBM WESB adapter
to access and leverage the CBA CommSee
Oracle data services. IBM does not support the
full capabilities of Oracle and this new adapter
completed the coverage of the IBM tool to
access the broader Oracle capabilities. This
enabled the efficient definition and delivery of
BPM coordinated products and services to
make use of the core Oracle data asset at CBA
and thus centralise the process and service
knowledge and the execution into the BPM
tooling.
Operational and Support Systems
Provide Logging and Exception Handling
frameworks and services to support and
administer the runtime of the WebSphere
WESB, Process Server and Lombardi BPM
frameworks. This integrated the IBM

Newsnet (contract)
Jul 2002 – Nov 2003
Convergent Messaging System -
Telecommunications
NewsNet is a Fax messaging and distribution company.
Data Transformation and Migration
Core assets of NewsNet are the lists of
recipients. These are valuable IP providing
unique message broadcast capabilities that are
tuned to the recipient demographic. This asset
was languishing in bespoke C and file based
systems. The data was transformed and
uploaded into the modern switching system
and administration and user management
services added to ease the use and
management of the broadcast lists. This led to
a greater usage and reduced management cost
of the lists, leading to greater revenue on an
existing asset.
Messaging Platform
Uplifted the switching and messaging system
to the TopCall solution. This extends the
capabilities beyond just fax to encompass
email, mobile and voice services. This reduced
the dependency on a legacy system and thus
removed the operational costs and risks
associated with an unsupported technology. It
further extended the portfolio of offerings
leading to greater market share, and
profitability.
Billing Engine
A mostly manual and tedious billing process
lead to payment delays and accuracy issues. By
replacing the billing engine with a SQL based
solution, the billing was more efficient,
accurate and reliable. This led to earlier billing
with less corrections and adjustments, leading
to better operational costs and customer
satisfaction.
Legacy Support
NewsNet had an ageing C and SGI Unix
platform. This was engineered for a larger
operational team with mostly manual
operating procedures. This was not a reliable
platform and costly to maintain and support.
The engagement had two objectives, to
document and model the solution for an
upgrade, and to support it in its existing
format to maintain business continuity. With
broad skills in C, UNIX and
telecommunications, was able to support the
platform and ready it for uplift to a more
reliable and cost effective platform.

stream.

the mobile device channel. Providing

integration suite that allowed the usage of
Bullant on a mobile device. This lead to a
fulfilment of a product capability and extended

removal of some of the most prevalent
adoption barriers in the sales channel.
