2. Is your hobby a problem?
Let's find out
Typically, a hobby is an activity or
interest that is pursued outside of
one's regular work and is mostly
pursued for pleasure.
3. Stamp collecting, chat rooms, railroads, softball,
scrapbooking, golf, reading, painting, tap dancing, yard
work, crafts, auto mechanics, music, garage sales,
sewing, fishing, cooking, boating, furniture refinishing,
javelin tossing, and a variety of other activities or
pastimes all necessitate a certain amount of balance.
4. We need to make sure we
have a balanced
approach to managing
our family life and any
extracurricular activities
we might enjoy.
5. Enjoying a hobby is a good

method of getting away from

emphasis.
6. If you only go to work or
school and have no outside
activities, whether you're a
father, mother, husband,
wife, boyfriend, girlfriend,
son, daughter, brother, or
sister, you're probably not
the friendliest person to be
around.
7. If, on the other hand, you
immerse yourself in your
interest to the point that it
appears to others that your
pastime is all you care about
or want to do all day, you're
most certainly setting
yourself up for prolonged
negative feedback at home.
8. People are affected by
depression in a variety of
ways.
Some folks snooze the entire
day away.
Others are only interested in
reading, reading, reading.
9. Others will spend a lot of time
down in the basement or out
in the shed building a bigger,
faster widget to avoid dealing
with the source of their
irritations.
10. Hobbies are supposed
to be a healthy
release for stress, not
a technique to avoid
dealing with
problems that must
be addressed.
11. Hobbies can end up being
very expensive.
Boating, Snowmobiles,
Remote control drones, cars,
boats, planes & helicopters,
ATV’s, motorcycles, and ski
equipment (water or snow)
are all reasonable examples.
12. Some seemingly low-cost
hobbies can also start to
quickly add up and you’ll
be attempting to budget
for your monthly painting
or pottery classes.
13. It's time to 'hit the pause
button' and reassess your
passion if it's causing more
harm than good, if it's eating
more of your family's
finances and time than you
can or should.
14. You will probably end up with two
options:
(1) Give up or vastly modify what
you've been doing for the benefit of
your family, or
(2) Divert your attention to a hobby
that you can devote less time to but
also make money from.
15. You might be pleasantly
surprised to learn that almost
any hobby or interest can be
transformed into at least a
somewhat profitable business
with cheap overhead and low
start-up costs.
16. You're also not
compelled to offer a
particular product!
In fact, you can simply
sell your knowledge as a
service.
17. If you've been
doing your
activity/hobby on a
regular basis for a
long time, you're
probably fairly
knowledgeable
about it.
18. If you’ve been making
wooden toys for your
kids and friends' kids,
for example, you're
no doubt familiar with
where to get the best
deals on tools & supplies.
19. Perhaps you have a
collection of books,
magazines or a website
that you turn to for ideas
on a regular basis such as

23. If you've ever used a
search engine to hunt for
information, you know
how time-consuming it is
to sift through all of the
results to locate exactly
what you need.
24. You're often given a lot
of information that
doesn't appear to be
very reliable, and you
have to figure out what
you can use and what
you should avoid!
25. When you turn your
personal enjoyment /
passion into a product to
offer, you're assisting
anyone looking for that
information without having
to spend hours looking for it!
26. This has been my main purpose for
starting up GLZWoodworking.
I have no problem admitting that I
tend to focus on the ‘enjoyment'
aspects of my woodworking hobby a
bit more than the ‘teaching others'
aspects but as you'll discover when
you visit www.glzwoodw.biz, I'm
constantly adding info & links to the
sources I know of that can help
people.
