In longer-running assignments some issues are recurrent:
• Grading vs. feedback
• Big Bang grading
• Low self-assessment skills
• Little ownership of learning process
• Procrastination (aka Students Syndrome, poor time management until
deadline approaches)
• Heavy workload peaks for instructors after deadline

• After decline, 53% requested lower grade, 47% requested same grade (thus
improved their work)
• Full grade request approval grew during the second half of the course
(might be an indication for improved self-assessment skills)
• 4 x GO FOR GOLD (unnecessary improvements)

First lessons learned
• Asks for new mindset (for both students and teachers)
• Gamification aspect works (and motivates)
• Workload for teachers more distributed, peak at the end is “doable”
• Self-assessment skills not bad, not sure if they have improved
• Essential:
• Good rubrics (and communication of them)!
• THIS IS FEEDBACK
• Timely review of Grading Requests
• Technological support
