Visioning/Goal-Setting – Opportunity
We Are Always Creating Our Experience
• Consciously – this is the 10% of our brain that we are aware
of using. When we use this part, we are more likely to be
powerful.
• Unconsciously – this is the 90% of our brain that we’re not
aware of – that we don’t use consciously. When this part is
used – which is a lot – our results are random at best.
• How do we access that remaining 90%?

We Have Up To 50,000 Thoughts a Day!
• Up to 80% can be negative.
• Up to 95% are thoughts that we also had yesterday.
• We don’t have direct access to what thoughts come across
our brain.
• We can sometimes decide which conscious thoughts we
give significance to.
• This leaves us with no access to the unconscious thoughts –
which is most of them.

Why is Perception Important?
• Nothing makes a difference in our experience as much as
how we perceive things.
• This is why two different people can react so differently to
the same event.
• We have no greater access to change how we perceive
things than the words we use – with ourselves and others.
• The words we use affect our unconscious perception. This is
the access to our 90% untapped brain.

• There are two basic ways to use words when we discuss
how we are or what we’re up to:

Visioning/Goal-Setting – Beliefs
How Do Beliefs Fit In?
• Beliefs form our worldview and affect our perceptions.
• It’s important not to confuse our beliefs with truth.
• We can believe anything we want to believe.
• We give significance to the thoughts that align with
our beliefs – consciously and unconsciously.
• It’s important to release or replace negative or weak
beliefs and adopt powerful ones.
• The most efficient way to change our beliefs is through
our words.

Visioning/Goal-Setting – Vision
What is a Vision and Why is it Important?
• A vision is something we work towards.
• It could be achieving something or being or feeling a certain
way. It may or may not be quantifiable.
• Once we establish a vision and keep it ‘top of mind’, we:
• …are declaring what we are up to;
• …move toward that vision far faster than if we did not
formalize it.

Visioning/Goal-Setting – Four Steps to Peak Performance
1. Create a Vision Board – Though this might seem a bit “out
there”, it gives your mind (conscious and unconscious)
something to remember and rally around.
• Pick a time frame that this will apply to – 1, 3 or 5
years.
• Get creative and let your limitations go.
• Get a large piece of foam board and attach pictures,
words, tables or drawings (no reason it could not be
digital also).
• Display it in a place where you will see it regularly.

2. Set Goals – Goals are more specific
than the vision itself. Pick a time
frame that this will apply to – 1, 3
or 5 years.
• Goals support the vision.
• Goals are quantifiable.
• When goals are reached, you
are closer to your vision.
• Celebrate each milestone in
achieving your goals.
My Goals
1. I will sell 50% more
than last year by
September, 2015
2. I will develop a
support staff of 4 by
the end of 2015.

3. Adopt Powerful Beliefs – You get to choose them – really!
• Question beliefs that cause fear and doubt.
• Consider replacing them with more empowering beliefs.
• You don’t actually have to believe them at first. Just decide that you are going to
adopt them and see what happens.
• Take on beliefs that support your vision.
4. Create Effective Habits
• Make an honest inventory of your time and classify your activities into:
 Green – activities that support what you are up to and are essential.
 Yellow – activities that are necessary but aren’t as essential, can be done at a later time
or delegated.
 Red – those that don’t support your vision.
• Create a schedule where you map out the green and yellow time and stick to it.
• Either eliminate your red activities or change your vision to include (some of)
them.

If You Remember Nothing Else . . .
• We don’t have direct access to our unconscious brain
(90%) but there are ways to utilize this vast potential.
• Using this knowledge, strategy and these tactics will help
you direct your life towards optimal performance.
1. Adopt empowering beliefs (and let the rest go)
2. Use declarative language (not descriptive)
3. Create a vision
4. Set goals and monitor them regularly
5. Create powerful habits and practice them daily

When we use this part, we are more likely to be powerful. • Unconsciously – this is the 90% of our brain that we’re not aware of – that we don’t use consciously. When this part is used – which is a lot – our results are random at best. • How do we access that remaining 90%?
  • 4. www.DeirdreSanborn.com Visioning/Goal-Setting – Opportunity (continued…) We Have Up To 50,000 Thoughts a Day! • Up to 80% can be negative. • Up to 95% are thoughts that we also had yesterday. • We don’t have direct access to what thoughts come across our brain. • We can sometimes decide which conscious thoughts we give significance to. • This leaves us with no access to the unconscious thoughts – which is most of them.

  • 7. www.DeirdreSanborn.com Visioning/Goal-Setting – Beliefs How Do Beliefs Fit In? • Beliefs form our worldview and affect our perceptions. • It’s important not to confuse our beliefs with truth. • We can believe anything we want to believe. • We give significance to the thoughts that align with our beliefs – consciously and unconsciously. • It’s important to release or replace negative or weak beliefs and adopt powerful ones. • The most efficient way to change our beliefs is through our words.

It may or may not be quantifiable. • Once we establish a vision and keep it ‘top of mind’, we: • …are declaring what we are up to; • …move toward that vision far faster than if we did not formalize it.

Create a Vision Board – Though this might seem a bit “out there”, it gives your mind (conscious and unconscious) something to remember and rally around. • Pick a time frame that this will apply to – 1, 3 or 5 years. • Get creative and let your limitations go. • Get a large piece of foam board and attach pictures, words, tables or drawings (no reason it could not be digital also). • Display it in a place where you will see it regularly.

Pick a time frame that this will apply to – 1, 3 or 5 years. • Goals support the vision. • Goals are quantifiable. • When goals are reached, you are closer to your vision. • Celebrate each milestone in achieving your goals. Adopt Powerful Beliefs – You get to choose them – really! • Question beliefs that cause fear and doubt. • Consider replacing them with more empowering beliefs. • You don’t actually have to believe them at first. Just decide that you are going to adopt them and see what happens. • Take on beliefs that support your vision. 4. Create Effective Habits • Make an honest inventory of your time and classify your activities into:  Green – activities that support what you are up to and are essential.  Yellow – activities that are necessary but aren’t as essential, can be done at a later time or delegated.  Red – those that don’t support your vision. • Create a schedule where you map out the green and yellow time and stick to it. • Either eliminate your red activities or change your vision to include (some of) them.
