How can sustainable & energy saving behaviour be generated in old office buildings, where there's no smart technology such as sensors available?
One possibility is to change human behaviour, nudge it towards sustainable direction.
This was done in the very first Finnish Behaviour Change Hackathon, organized by Demos Helsinki and Granlund.
5. WHY BEHAVIOUR IS RELEVANT?
• No heavy investments needed
• Fast
• Applicable in all kinds of buildings
• Can decrease energy usage which is
otherwise difficult to decrease
6. Hackathon?
an event in which computer programmers and others
involved in software development and hardware
development, including graphic designers, interface
designers and project managers, collaborate intensively
on software projects.
21. WHAT KIND OF SOLUTION?
”Social pressure works best, indicating your state against others.”
”Timing is important, for instance hitting them with something
salient (e.g. visible, visual, info-visual…).”
”Broadly use two classes of incentives: financial and social. Perhaps
even more important, make the default actions those that are
positive ones, ie. nudge people to the right direction.”
28. How much can our habits affect energy use?
