Because the content is electronic, it may be
distributed over the Internet.

Denise starts Big warm welcome to nearly 1000 people who registered for this webinar. For Ellen and I this marks an exciting day, that we’ve been anticipating and working toward for many months.
Let’s start with some big numbers to set the context for this webinar on How Your can profit from Digital Publishing…Ebook sales rose 117% for publishers who report data to the Association of American Publishers…
In the U.S. 70 million avid readers buy 10 or more books, paper or electronic, each year.
On the eve of the publication of her interactive storybook application for the ipad “Where do Balloons Go”
Here’s what we promise to cover today
First, for those of you who may not know us, let me introduce my partner on this project… Dr. Ellen Britt is an award-winning Online Marketing Strategist, Amazon best-selling author and founder of Marketing Qi, where she teaches savvy women entrepreneurs (and a few cool men!) how to take their knowledge and expertise and transform it into Authentic Authority. Ellen has produced and hosted a dozen telesummits and has interviewed some of the most well-known and respected names in marketing and self-development. She is the co-founder, with Denise Wakeman, of The Future of Ink, designed to help online entrepreneurs leverage digital publishing strategies to promote and grow their businesses.
Ellen - My colleague Denise Wakeman has been marketing on the web since 1996, blogging since 2004 and has built not one, but 3 successful businesses. She is an Amazon best-selling author, a sought after mentor, speaker and trainer and can be found at DeniseWakeman.com She is also the co-founder, with me, Ellen Britt, of The Future of Ink, designed to help online entrepreneurs leverage digital publishing strategies to promote and grow their businesses.
Ellen - This quote by Seth Godin is a real find, because Seth is, as Denise says, on the “Bleeding edge” of disrupting the publishing industry with the founding of his Domino project, powered by Amazon.
Ellen - Even with traditional libraries allowing patrons to “borrow” ebooks from their virtual shelves, there is so little resistance to purchasing a digital file...Amazon’s deadly one click purchasing button...the astounding convenience of being able to carry your own library with you on your iPad, computer, kindle or other reader. And with cloud storage, there is no limit.
Ellen - Just as consumption of digital media has become effortless, production of digital content is easy as well....easy to use tools, tutorials, reasonably priced outsourcing if you don’t want to do it yourself. [End]
Denise
Also referred to as web publishing, online publishing, electronic publishing, ePublishing We want to be clear about what we’re referring to when we use the phrase “digital publishing” and remind you that you are ALREADY a digital publisher if you publish a blog, write ebooks, white papers or host a podcast, for example.
We first wanted to find out to what extent online entrepreneurs actually used the various forms of content marketing, such as blog posts, articles, reports, ebooks and so forth, to market their businesses. Blogging won here with 75% of reporting they used blogging, with articles coming in a close second at 60%. Interestingly, ebooks were cited by slightly less than half (48%) as a current content marketing tactic.
Ellen - this is an astounding statistic, especially since more than half have no experience with digital publishing.
Ellen - Here are the 3 biggest benefits online entrepreneurs are getting from digital publishing 1) generating business exposure or visibility 2) and increase in traffic, subscribers and opt-in and 3) generating qualified leads (and in many cases paid leads if they are coming back to your site from the purchase of a digital book)
Ellen - Here are the Big 3 digital publishing platforms Number one (no surprise here is Amazon.com followed by Barns and Noble and then Smashwords [End]
Denise – more stats to reinforce our position that this is not a fad. Google is now shipping its new Nexus tablet. Amazon is about to announce its new Kindle device and Apple will be unveiling the iphone 5 shortly.
Ellen - All right - Let’s get into the meat of this report and cover the Top Ten Questions online entrepreneurs want to know about digital publishing 1) how do I get started 2) how do I market my ebooks and 3 how do I format my digital files so they look great after they are published on the Kindle or other platform
Ellen - Number 4 - which publishing platform or platforms should I use? Amazon only or will it be to my advantage to spread my content over multiple platforms? and Number 5 How do I get my expertise out of my head and into a book? [End]
Denise #6 Many online entrepreneurs are very concerned about getting maximum exposure and visibility for their digital books. Below are a few questions related to this category: ~ How do I get my ebook ranked in the bestseller lists on Amazon? ~ What are the best ways to get quality reviews for my digital book? ~ What steps can I take to make sure my ebook stands out in a crowded marketplace? ~ How can I effectively leverage the various distribution channels? Many online entrepreneurs want recommendations for places to outsource many of the tasks associated with digital publishing. How do I go about researching a good niche? ~ How do I know which niches will make me money? ~ What are “best practices” for developing topics in niche markets? ~ How do I know my niche is large enough to make writing an ebook worth my while?
#9 will be covered in next few slids #10 surprised us and reveal a huge opportunity for people who offer services to authors
Many people think they have to start from scratch in order to publish a book. But for a fast path, start where you are with what you’ve already created.
When you create an ebook, essentially you are a self-publisher. So how do you make money? First, what’s the outcome you want – ebook sales or product/service sales That will determine if you use your ebook as a lead generator or a product itself.
Ellen - You simply cannot afford to underestimate the universe of fans and customers that are to be found on Amazon. And at least for now, if you do choose to publish on only one platform...Amazon should be it, hands down.
Ellen - Here’s why: Amazon’s Kindle ebook platform is THE standard for digital publishing and you have access to Amazons gigantic reach in terms of traffic and customers. As a publisher on Amazon, you can take advantage of Amazon’s KDP Select where you can make your ebook free for a number of days out of every 90 to get people to download it and increase your rankings (it’s also a great way to get more leads. Every ebook you publish should have a CTA leading to an opt-in on your website. [end]
Denise – an often overlooked income stream is audio-based. Many prefer to listen to content vs. read it. They want to download to their ipod or smart phone or tablet and listen when and where they want. Repurpose your written content into audio.
Ellen - OK let’s move into the Bonus tips for promoting your ebooks - we have 7 of our best ones for you
Ellen - there is nothing better than giving away one or even two chapters to get people to buy your book,as this really arouses their interest, creates cusrisity and increases sales. You can do this on your websire in exchange for the opt-in or when you publish on Amazon, the Kindle edition preview feature will do it for you, allowing potential buyers to get a taste of your book before they buy.
Ellen - Be sure to add reviews at the beginning of your free sample chapters...this will add validation in the form of social proof and will definitely increase conversions to your paid ebook. You can see on this slide a few excerpts from the beginning of my ebook, a Southern short story called The LIttlest Angel, that I published last Christmas...these make people much more apt to trust that they will like the book and to purchase.
Ellen - I mentioned Amazon’s KPD select program a few minutes ago...this is where you can promote your book completely free of charge on Amazon for up to 5 days...and there are a lot of advantages to this...gets the word out to bigger audiences, plus you can couple this with other giveaways, you can give it as a bonus for buying a physical product and you can ask the influencers in your niche to spread the word by sharing the free download with their networks. [end]
Denise What is the Kindle Owners' Lending Library? The Kindle Owners' Lending Library is a collection of books that Amazon Prime members who own a kindle can borrow once a month, with no due dates. For more information, click here . How is my share of the Kindle Owners' Lending Library fund calculated? Your share of the Kindle Owners' Lending Library Fund is calculated based on a share of the total number of qualified borrows of all participating KDP titles. For example, if the monthly fund amount is $500,000, the total qualified borrows of all participating KDP titles is 100,000, and your book was borrowed 1,500 times, you will earn 1.5% (1,500/100,000 = 1.5%), or $7,500 for that month. If my books are distributed in the Kindle Owners' Lending Library, can customers still buy it? Yes, your books will still be available for anyone to buy in the Kindle Store, like they've always been, and you will continue to earn royalties from those sales like you do today. What does it mean to publish exclusively on Kindle? When you choose KDP Select for a book, you're committing to make the digital format of that book available exclusively through KDP. During the period of exclusivity, you cannot distribute your book digitally anywhere else, including on your website, blogs, etc. However, you can continue to distribute your book in physical format, or in any format other than digital. See the KDP Select Terms and Conditions for more information.
Ellen - We’ve been saying that was going to be an unusual webinar because we are not going to be making a paid offer at the end. Instead, Denise and I want to take a moment to introduce to The Future of Ink, our online digital publishing magazine...here’s our mission (next slide)
Ellen - to become THE authority site for online entrepreneurs who are looking for information about digital publishing
And while our main focus is on digital ebooks, we will also be looking at all forms of digital content publishing...videos, audio and interactive media [end]

They all use content to market their businesses as well as work with other online entrpreneurs, helping them create success through publishing, on and offline.
