Seven year old Johnny had finished
his summer holidays and gone back
to school.
Two days later his teacher phoned his
mother to tell her that John was mis-
behaving.
"Wait a minute," she said. "I had
Johnny here for two months and I
never called you once when he mis-
behaved."
A customer was bothering the waiter
in a restaurant. First, he asked that
the air conditioning be turned up be-
cause he was too hot, then he asked it
be turned down cause he was too
cold, and so on for about half an
hour.
Surprisingly, the waiter was very pa-
tient, he walked back and forth and
never once got angry. So finally, a
second customer asked him why he
didn't throw out the pest.
"Oh, I really don't care or mind," said
the waiter with a smile. "We don't
even have an air conditioner."
"It's no good, sir," said the hopeless
pupil to his English teacher, "I try to
learn, but everything you say goes in
both ears and out the other."
"Goes in both ears and out the oth-
er?" asked the puzzled teacher, "But
you only have two ears."
"You see, sir? I'm no good at math,
either."
A woman came home, screeching her
car into the driveway, and ran into
the house. She slammed the door and
shouted at the top of her lungs, 'Hon-
ey, pack your bags. I won the lot-
tery!' The husband said, 'Oh my God!
What should I pack, beach stuff or
mountain stuff?' 'Doesn't matter,' she
said. 'Just get out.'

Philips Furniture Warehouse, Nenagh,
is having an Anniversary Sale to cele-
brate 30 years in business. There are
some fantastic bargains to be had as
this wonderful milestone is celebrated.
In an interview with the Tipp Tatler,
proprietor Philip Ryan told us about
how it all started.
Philip began working in pubs as a
young man. His bar trade took him to
numerous spots around the country.
He tells how he used to hitch home to
Tipperary from far flung places when
he had time off from bar work.

He ended up working in Mullingar
where he managed the Greville Arms
Hotel. Joe Dolan was one of the many
customers who used to frequent the
Greville Arms. During his time in
Mullingar he changed careers and be-
gan working in Kilroys Furniture
Store. Kilroys opened a store in
Nenagh and asked Philip to manage it.
After some time Kilroys decided to
close the Nenagh store in 1984 and
wanted Philip to move back to Mullin-
gar to manage the store there.
As he had already settled in Nenagh he
wasn’t keen on leaving. He decided he
was going to set up his own carpet
business. With very little funds to get
established Philip approached the bank
for a loan where the assistant manager
told him he wouldn’t last six weeks
and turned him down. Showing that
strong resilient strength of character
necessary to survive in business he
went back to the bank a week later and
met with the manager who approved a
loan. He then went to a wholesaler and
bought some carpets to begin trading.
On the 21st June 1985 Philips Carpets
opened the new showroom in Nenagh.

Due to demand, in 1990 Philip bought
a store up the lane from his existing
premises and branched into furniture.
A strong business was built over the
years based on good service and relia-
bility with customers coming from all
over the country to buy furniture for
their homes.
Philip attributes much of his success to
his belief in hard work and the trust he
has gained from customers over his 30
years in business. His word is his
bond. When Philip tells you he will
deliver on Friday, you can be sure you
won’t be waiting any longer. His work
ethic and moral compass has ensured
his business has survived two reces-

Munster Senior Hurling Championships
The time for talking is almost at an end
as the clock winds down to the much an-
ticipated 2015 Munster Senior Hurling
Championship Final as Tipperary prepare
to take on Waterford in Semple Stadium
next Sunday July 12th at 4pm.
As tension and excitement builds across
the Premier County, so too does the ex-
pectation of the Tipperary faithful who
have rowed in supremely behind captain
Brendan Maher and his team ahead of the
final. Blue and Gold flags and bunting
have been dusted down following a brief
hibernation since late September last as
fans start to bedeck the highways and by-
ways of Tipperary in the hope they will
still be flying proudly come this late Sep-
tember and beyond following a success-
ful hurling championship.
Without putting the cart before the horse
the serious challenge that Waterford will
bring to Semple Stadium on Sunday must
first be effectively negotiated in shaping
the destiny of this year’s campaign. Hav-
ing played Waterford three times this
year without success, the Tipperary man-
agement know they will have to have
their side on full alert to ensure a highly
prized and much sought after victory.
Having previously overcome Waterford
in both the 2011 and 2012 Munster Fi-
nals in Pairc Ui Chaoimh, the current
Tipperary side are now primed and ready
for a Semple shoot out to decide the out-
come of this year’s final. 2012 was also
was the last time Tipperary were Munster
Champions when they captured their 40th
crown, Sunday hopefully will see it in-
crease to 41.
Before that Tipperary’s previous back to
back titles were completed coincidently,
on July 12, 2009 when Waterford trav-
elled to Semple Stadium with Tipp
emerging victorious 4-14 to 2-16 before
an attendance of 40,330.
While temperatures are forecast to rise by
the weekend the intense heat of Munster
Championship battle will no doubt have
the mercury boiling as Eamon O’Shea’s
side ignite a furnace of flair and passion
against the Déise as these two great rivals
scorch the ash and blaze the sliothar in
the cauldron of Semple Stadium, sure
isn’t it what summer is all about.
The referee for the Munster Final is
James Owens from Wexford.
Munster Minor Hurling Final
Tipperary take on Limerick in the Elec-
tric Ireland Munster Minor Hurling
Championship Final on Sunday next at
2pm in Semple Stadium. Following their
win over Clare in the semi-final Liam
Cahill’s side must prepare for the final
without their captain Stephen Quirke as a
result of his knee injury in the Clare
game and we extend best wishes to
Stephen for a full recovery.
The Tipperary management will be all
too aware of the threat Limerick will
bring to Semple Stadium. Despite their
quarter-final loss to Cork they regrouped
to defeat the Rebels in the semi-final and
won’t lack motivation against Tipperary.
In last year’s quarter-final they overcame
Tipp, so the Tipperary guard will be well
and truly up on Sunday in a bid to make
it a Premier victory again like their Sen-
ior counterparts, their first since 2012.
Having put in a most effective first half
against Clare in the semi-final, the Tip-
perary management will be working hard
to make sure their side maintain that con-
sistency in the final and push on to claim
their 38th Munster Minor title. The refe-
ree for the Minor Final is Joe Larkin
from Cork.

allows you to send files up to 2GB in
size to anyone's email address (There is
a paid version for sending larger files).
It's very simple to use. You add the file
you want to send, add the other person's
email address, add your own email and
add a message if you want (recommend-
ed so they won't think it's spam). Hit
'Transfer' and that's it.
The other person then gets an email with
a link to click on to download the file.
You get notified when it's been down-
loaded. And nobody's email gets clogged
up with large attachments!

Since 2001, Songschool has encouraged and
helped thousands of students write, record and
perform their own songs. The Source Arts Cen-
tre plays host to this week long workshop this
July for 12 to 18 year olds. Songschool is ideal
for teens who are interested in writing and re-
cording songs, performing them at an evening
concert, making a music video, learning about
music technology, and meeting people who love
music as much as they do, not to mention form-
ing bands and having fun!
The week long programme combines all of the
above and much more. Do you know someone
who loves music, who thinks music is life?
This is their opportunity to create, perform &
record with Songschool . They have been run-
ning their worshops and classes for over 15
years in venues such as The National Concert
Hall and overseas in Germany, France, England,
Wales, Scotland, Morocco, Croatia and Roma-
nia. Songschool will take up residence for one
week only this summer at The Source Arts Cen-
tre Thurles. Tutors are Thurles native Joey
Maguire (DJ, Musician and part of Tetris Ef-
fect) and Justin Cullen (Kilkenny based
singer/songwriter who fronts Frankenstein
Bolts).

Workshops are designed to allow students a
chance to explore hidden talents and to creative-
ly express themselves.
There is a strong emphasis and focus on encour-
aging collaboration and the participation of all
students.
No experience necessary! - An ability to sing or
play instrument is not a pre requisite.
A team of dedicated and professional tutors
based in key locations.
Songschool encourage students to develop inter-
personal skills.
Students learn to express themselves through
words and music.
Workshops are designed to fit into existing
teaching plans or can be developed as a separate
project ( eg based on themes such as DevEd,
Mental Health etc)

Ross Browne is one of the
best emerging stand-up co-
medians in the country. He
is also one of one of the stars
of RTE 2's hit hidden cam-
era show ‘The Fear’ portray-
ing off the wall characters
such as JIMMY, BAD
BOUNCER, SERGEANT
MAJOR and DOLF. His
razor sharp material and
high energy delivery have
cemented him as one of
the most promising
stand ups in recent
years.
Before getting his big break with
RTÉ, Browne had recorded hid-
den camera shows and posted
them online, which led to an audi-
tion for The Fear. “It was com-
pletely out of nowhere. The fact
that the show was already com-
missioned and was going to air
just doesn’t happen,” he says.
Browne’s background is in stand-
up comedy, and he’s been men-
tored by none other than comedy
legend Tommy Tiernan.
Ross said his only ad-
vice was to write and to
keep writing until some-
thing works. He got a
gig in Galway to support
Tommy Tiernan after he
asked how much material
Ross had. About 10 min-
utes was the budding
young comedians re-
sponse - not the truth at
all but when Tommy
Tiernan asks you to
perform, you just do
it. Ross spent the next three weeks
trying to put something together!

people attended the open auditions

place at the Simon Ryan Theatre,
Tipperary Excel last Saturday 17th
May 2015. The Team behind Excel
Youth Theatre, namely Pat Marnane
and Michael O’Donohoe were de-
lighted with the positive reaction

Anxiety (continued from previous issue)
It is true that a belief in a higher
power will not cure anxiety or
phobia, but it will help to bring
calmness, because it helps to dispel
loneliness. It helps you to realise that
you are not alone. Our higher power
is always available, and has
unconditional love for us. I was
pleased when I read Edmund
Bourne’s statement that questions
sincerely asked of your higher power
are answered. I strongly believe that
our prayers are always answered. I
have never known when my prayers
were not answered. Sometimes it
took a long time, and sometimes I got
a different answer, but it was always
in my interest.
So, spirituality is not just helpful for
existential anxiety, but for all types.
If you are weighed down by
existential anxiety, you can use your
positive traits to deal with it. You
can explore how responsible you are
as a person, look at your courage
and creativity in facing it. Children
are not immune from existential
anxiety when involved in the long
process of separation from parents,
and ultimately searching for
autonomy (independence).
Separation and existential anxiety
are related, and separation fear is
very healthy and understandable. If,
however, it is profoundly
distressing, separation fear needs to
be addressed.
If you suffer from existential
anxiety, it is likely that you feel
bored with life, and have an empty
feeling. Clearly, this can lead to
depression and other unwelcome
guests. To avoid this you may have
to make some positive life changes
to get greater fulfilment. It is said
that loving your job, for example, is
a sign of success in life. So, if you
are bored with your job, or unhappy
in it, you may wish to explore other
work possibilities. Even the
exploration can give you a sense of
purpose. We cannot change until we
begin to think about changing. To
explore the meaning in your life
look at your life purposes. What are
they? Some of the following perhaps
- to raise a family? To write a book?
Making new friends? To travel
widely? Finding peace in your life?
Making more money and becoming
financially independent? Living
every day as if it were your last?
Enriching your spirituality?
Write down some questions that
might give you guidance on
nurturing yourself with greater
purpose. Some questions might be –
what activities give you most
satisfaction? What makes you feel
great about yourself? Are there any
people who inspire you? What are
you good at? What might you like to
teach others? Would you like to take
night classes? Would you like to do
a retreat?
Now try to visualise what life would
be like if you achieved some of
these possible goals. Think about
this in some detail. You may wish to
write down such details, and when
you have fully identified what would
enrich your life and give you greater
meaning, you have to decide when,
where and how you will proceed. Be
specific in this. If you wish, for
example, to see a guidance
counsellor to explore changing your
job, do it as soon as possible. This
will provide guidance and support
for the next step, and so on. Despite
adverse economic circumstances,
you can choose to enrich your life.
