Introduction

During your time at College your tutors will assist you to focus on correctly
anticipating and preparing key information, questions and answers for potential
interviews. Preparation of key information and required interview skills for your
future career will help you develop to becomemore effective in future interviews
for employment.

Learning Outcomes

There are three learning outcomes to this unit:

Outcome 1 - Be able to anticipate key questions that they might be asked at
the interview

The learner can:

1.1 Suggest key types of questions that the interviewer might ask.

Outcome 2 - Be able to prepare answers to anticipated interview questions

The learner can:

2.1 Prepare appropriate answers to the key questions most likely to be asked by the
      interviewer.

Outcome 3 - Know how to use information about the job/course to identify
questions to ask the interviewer

The learner can:

3.1 Find out key information about the employer/ organisation/ course and explain why
it is useful for the interview

3.2 Identify what information they do not have about the job/placement/course which
they could request at the interview
Outcome 1 - Be able to anticipate key questions that they might be
asked at the interview

1.1 Suggest key types of questions that the interviewer might ask.

In groups of no less than threediscuss and create a list of key questionson a
separate sheet of paper. You may have heard them before or might be asked them
by an interviewer for a job. When the whole group has had an input, then use the
space below to write down 5 Key questions from all of your suggestions in what
your group considers are the best ones first, an example of one would be:

‘Why do you want a position at our company?’

   1. What can you offer to the company?
   2. What are your strongest traits?
   3. What skills can you use to benefit our company?
   4. How are you at working with other people?
   5. What is your greatest achievement?

Print off, cut out and attach below photo evidence (from tutors) of you in
your ‘Group activity’
Outcome 2 - Be able to prepare answers to anticipated interview questions

2.1 Prepare appropriate answers to the key questions most likely to be asked by
the interviewer.

Split your allocated groups in half and carry out a ‘speed-dating’ mock interview
with each of the other groups. For this activity half of your group will ask your
formulated questions and the other half will answer the other group’s questions in
a round robin (speed-dating style). The group asking the questions must record all
the answers on a separate sheet and then discuss in your groups, which are the
best ones from the other groups to meet the criteria for this task.

Record the 5 best answers in numerical order to match your questions in 1.1

   1. ................................................................................................................................
   2. ................................................................................................................................
   3. ................................................................................................................................
   4. ................................................................................................................................
   5. ................................................................................................................................

Print off, cut out and attach below photo evidence (from tutors) of you in
your ‘Speed-Dating’ interview question activities
3. Know how to use information about the job/course to identify questions to
ask the interviewer

3.1 Find out key information about the employer/ organisation/ course
and explain why it is useful for the interview

As a short project, individually you are to use all forms of media at your disposal to
investigate and produce detailed information sheet on either a job or a course
that is of great interest to your future career. Save copies of all research and
attach to appendix 1

Your worksheet must include the following key facts;

History/background of employer or organisation (College)
      Mandatory qualifications
      Pay rates/course fees
Job terms of references (What you would be expected to do) or Course
      specifications (What the course involves)
      Working hours/course guided learning hours

Produce a separate MS word document that details your own thoughts on why
having the above researched information would prepare you better for the
interview.

Ensure your explanation includes;

How this information will improve your general knowledge
      Enhance self-confidence
      Awareness of expectations
Why being fully aware of job/course, might excited or put you off
How this research creates a good impression

3.2 Identify what information they do not have about the
job/placement/course which they could request at the interview

List below three questions that you would ask your interviewer, that you have not
been able to research and feel are important for you to make a decision.

   1. ...................................................................................
   2. ...................................................................................
   3. ...................................................................................
