21
E6000 CER DOCSIS 3.1
HIGHLIGHTS
• The DOCSIS 3.1 spec will greatly increase the bandwidth
performance of the HFC plant using OFDM PHY & LDPC FEC
— 10+ Gbps Downstreams & 1+ Gbps Upstreams will permit DOCSIS to
satisfy subscriber BW needs deep into the 2020 decade
• ARRIS has been a leader in the development of DOCSIS 3.1
— Co-author on the NCTA 2012 paper/presentation that kicked off the
DOCSIS 3.1 effort
— Large continued participation in the CableLabs DOCSIS 3.1 working
groups
• ARRIS CMTS/CER designs are flexible and permit firmware
upgrades, often extending the service life of these designs
— Examples:
o C4 DOCSIS 2.0 2Dx12U CAMs became DOCSIS 3.0 12U CAMs
o C4 16D CAMs became 32D CAMs
— The E6000 DCAM design is very flexible and is expected to support
some aspects of DOCSIS 3.1 via firmware upgrade
ARRIS CONFIDENTIAL & PROPRIETARY
ROADMAP SUBJECT TO CHANGE.
22
• Currently shipping DCAM will be able to support DOCSIS 3.1
functionality
— No need for any E6000 HW swap to support D3.1 downstream
— Easy for MSOs to migrate to mixed single carrier and D3.1
downstreams
— Enables early testing and integration of D3.1 headend and CPE
• FPGA design on first generation DCAM allows ARRIS to add
DOCSIS 3.1 capabilities to already deployed HW, via SW-only
upgrade
• Plan is to be ready for initial CM interop by Q1 2015
— Lab demos may be available earlier

• Initial D3.1 functionality planned
— 32 SC-QAMs (Annex B) and one 192MHz OFDM block
— 24 SC-QAMs (Annex A) and one 192MHz OFDM block
— Other mixes may be possible as well — TBD
— Up to 4096QAM
— OFDM licensed separately from SC-QAMs
• Related specifications
— Up to 1 GHz spectrum support
— The amount of unique DCAM traffic remains constant
o 11 Gbps from each RSM for a total of 22 Gbps when both RSMs are
active
o Second generation RSM may be used to increase DCAM ingest
capacity
o QAM replication can be used to fully utilize PHY density

  • 22. E6000 CER DOCSIS 3.1 HIGHLIGHTS • The DOCSIS 3.1 spec will greatly increase the bandwidth performance of the HFC plant using OFDM PHY & LDPC FEC — 10+ Gbps Downstreams & 1+ Gbps Upstreams will permit DOCSIS to satisfy subscriber BW needs deep into the 2020 decade • ARRIS has been a leader in the development of DOCSIS 3.1 — Co-author on the NCTA 2012 paper/presentation that kicked off the DOCSIS 3.1 effort — Large continued participation in the CableLabs DOCSIS 3.1 working groups • ARRIS CMTS/CER designs are flexible and permit firmware upgrades, often extending the service life of these designs — Examples: o C4 DOCSIS 2.0 2Dx12U CAMs became DOCSIS 3.0 12U CAMs o C4 16D CAMs became 32D CAMs — The E6000 DCAM design is very flexible and is expected to support some aspects of DOCSIS 3.1 via firmware upgrade ARRIS CONFIDENTIAL & PROPRIETARY ROADMAP SUBJECT TO CHANGE. 22
  • 23. • Currently shipping DCAM will be able to support DOCSIS 3.1 functionality — No need for any E6000 HW swap to support D3.1 downstream — Easy for MSOs to migrate to mixed single carrier and D3.1 downstreams — Enables early testing and integration of D3.1 headend and CPE • FPGA design on first generation DCAM allows ARRIS to add DOCSIS 3.1 capabilities to already deployed HW, via SW-only upgrade • Plan is to be ready for initial CM interop by Q1 2015 — Lab demos may be available earlier DOCSIS® 3.1 SUPPORT ON E6000 GEN 1 HW Roadmap is subject to change without notice.
