Dimitris Lazoulos is an established set
construction manager born in Athens, Greece
in the late seventies. While running an Athens-
based workshop for more than a decade,
Dimitris also enjoys seeking challenging
projects worldwide.
He studied Product Design at AKTO (Athens Art
and Technology Society) as well as hand made
jewellery, sculpture and moulding techniques at
the National Jewellery School of Athens. He
worked in various fields of design as product
designer, interior designer and art director.
Soon enough his artistry in prototyping
combined with his fascination for creative
problem solving found application in set
construction and special effects. The creative
industry gave him the opportunity to generate
ideas by using his knowledge on materials and
crafts.
Since 2003 he has been working as
construction manager and special effects
coordinator in feature films, TV commercials
and theatres, both with local and foreign
production companies.
In May 2006 he founded Ray Studios which is a
conceptual design and physical manufacturing
facility servicing film and creative industries.
Ray Studios houses a range of disciplines
under one roof including: Product design &
Prototyping, Set construction, Specialised
constructions & Special Effects, Models &
Miniatures, Props & Vehicles.

By bringing together a team of professionals with experience, enthusiasm and flexibility, he
provided Ray Studios with a vast shared skill set (designers, sculptors, engineers and craftsmen of
all specialties) and enabled the company to tackle virtually any creative challenge. Ray Studios
team operates innovatively combining traditional hand skills with the latest technology to find
creative solutions.
Dimitris is always in the forefront approaching projects holistically, from the earliest stages of
technical analysis and design to the manufacturing and final delivery on set, across all
departments. His ability to co-ordinate large numbers of staff and materials under pressure, his
good eye for detail and his understanding of complex drawings, specifications and technical
literature makes him a resourceful partner for every production designer.
From 2006 up to now he collaborated with numerous clients on diverse projects, including the
Museum of Acropolis, Zelus Pictures UK, Avion films, Thessaloniki Museum of Technology,
Vodafone, O2, Nike, L’ oreal, Panasonic, Mercedes, Nissan, Athens Olympic Games 2004, Shell,
Visa, SNCF and Cyprus Airways amongst others. In 2014 he participated as vehicle construction
manager in Hossein Amini’ s The two faces of January staring Oscar Isaac, Vigo Mortensen and
Kirsten Dunst. One of his last projects was Brett Bailey’ s Exhibit B in collaboration with Onassis
Cultural Centre in May 2016.

Besides everything above Dimitris Lazoulos participates in underwater filming projects both as a
safety diver and camera operator. He is an active PADI Dive Master with more than 300 dives, 20
certifications and specialties and has the ability to use a wide range of tools underwater in order to
create underwater Film and Photography sets.
He is experienced with challenging work conditions, remote locations, strong currents, bad
weather, and low visibility. Recently he took part in the production of Chinese Amazing Race, shot
at Santorini Island in Greece as member of the underwater filming crew.

Brett Bailey’s Exhibit B |Onassis Cultural Centre | May 2016 | Athens
Spanning the realms of performance and visual arts, Exhibit B is a ‘human installation’ that
confronts the history of racism that runs through the ethnographic displays, human zoos and
scientiﬁc racism of the late 19th and early 20th centuries, and the current dehumanising policies
towards immigrants in various parts of the world.

Through a series of installations, featuring performers who identify themselves as black, Exhibit B
presents a catalogue of the atrocities that were committed – and concealed – by European powers
in Africa in the name of ‘civilisation’, and considers the ways in which they have been dehumanised
in order to legitimise policies of plunder and enslavement. It commemorates the men and women
whose dignity was stripped away in this process.
Exhibit B was presented in 22 countries.

Nike Free Flyknit Shoe Launch Event | April 2014 | Athens
The new Nike Free Flyknit shoe launch event was organised in Athens by Avionﬁlms. Twenty journalists from
all around Europe joined on the 10 April, for an 1-day event that included workshops and a shoe trial run.
Α northern Athenian villa was transformed from scratch to a Nike Lab from Ray Studios.

The Mercedes Vito TVCs & Product Film was a seven shooting days project, shot in summer
2014 in Athens. An average of 90 people (crew only) per shoot day and 6 SFX teams consisting of
20 technicians & assistants creating rain, ﬁre, explosions, earthquake and sandstorm.

Model Of Acropolis Propylaea 1: 50 | Museum Of Acropolis | 2009 | Athens
The Propylaea of Athens was built as part of the Pericles great rebuilding programme for Athens in
c. 437 BCE and was designed as a monumental entrance to the plateau of the acropolis and the
great temple to Athena, the Parthenon. The model was created in Ray Studios Workshop under
the supervision of Tasos Tanoulas, chief archeologist of the restoration of Propylaea. It is exhibited
at the Parthenon Gallery in the Museum of Acropolis

Model Of Acropolis Propylaea 1: 50 | Making of
The project lasted almost 4 months, and more than 8 experienced professionals worked consistently for the
creation of the model. It is made of various materials including PVC, Plexiglass, Teﬂon, Aluminium, Plaster, MDF
and many litres of cyanoacrylate glue. It consists of approximately 10.0000 pieces, many cut on CNC.
