New Years Eve 2011 in Rio de Janeiro is beautiful and inspiring, and participating in this celebration
together with Rio’s enthusiastic population will be a unique Brazil travel experience for any visitor.
The celebration, called “Reveillon” in Portuguese, will start at 6 pm on December 31st 2010, when the
coast will light up as crowds gather on Copacabana beach wearing mostly white for peace, red for love

tradition to place candles in the sand, offer lipstick, perfume and even jewelry to the Goddess of the
Sea. On the stage on Copacabana Beach in Rio, the Brazilian samba musician Zeca Pagodinho, and the
Axé singer Daniela Mercury from Salvador da Bahia in Northeastern Brazil are the main attractions. The
percussion groups of Rio’s Samba Schools Unidas da Tijuca and Grande Rio, participants of the Samba
Parades during Carnival in Rio de Janeiro, will also play on New Year’s Eve 2011. Additionally, there is a
special Rock/Pop stage.
