18. Curved mirror
A curved mirror is a mirror with a curved reflecting
surface. The surface may be either:
-CONVEX (bulging outward)
-CONCAVE (bulging inward)
Most curved mirrors have surfaces that are shaped like
part of a sphere, but other shapes are sometimes used
in optical devices.
19. CONCAVE MIRROR
• Concave mirrors are used:
- in reflecting telescopes.
-provide a magnified image of
the face for applying make-up or
shaving. In illumination applications,
in torches, headlamps and spotlights,
-used to form optical cavities,
which are important in laser
construction
-landing aid system of
modern aircraft carriers also uses a
concave mirror.

33. RAY DIAGRAM
•Is a tool used tool used to
determine the location,
orientation, an size of an
image formed in a mirror or
through a lens.
34. TERM SYMBOL DESCRIPTION
Vertex V The center of the
mirror
Center of
curvature
C The center of the
spherical
Radius of
curvature
R The distance from the
center
Spherical
diameter
D The diameter of the
spherical mirror
35. TERM SYMBOL DESCRIPTION
Focal Point F This is a point where all rays
converge or seem to converge. It
is also called focus.
Focal length f The distance between the focal
point and the vertex. Can be
obtained by dividing the radius of
curvature by 2.
Principal axis A line passing through the
center of curvature and the
vertex of the mirror
Normal A line perpendicular to the
surface of a mirror
