Systematic
Approach to
Teaching
What is Systematic?
Organize – relating to or consisting of a system
 methodical in procedure or plan ( systematic approach)
 logical – presented or formulated as a coherent body of ideas or
principle ( systematic thought)
 efficient- effective in class that is marked by thoroughness and
regularity ( systematic efforts)
Systematic Approach to Teaching
It is a network of elements or parts different
from each other but each one is special in the
sense that each performs a unique function
for the life and effectiveness of the
instructional system.
Systematic Approach to Teaching
The focus of systematic instructional
planning is the student.
 It tells about the systematic approach to
teaching in which the focus in the teaching is
the students.
Purpose of a System Instructional
Design
 To ensure orderly relationships and
interaction of human, technical and
environmental resources to fulfill the
goals which have been established for
instruction. (Brown, 1969)

Define Objectives
 Instruction begins with the definition of instructional
objectives that consider the students' needs, interests
and readiness.
Choose Appropriate Methods
On the basis of these objectives the teacher selects
the appropriate teaching methods to be utilized and
used.

Choose Appropriate Experience
 Based on the teaching method selected, the appropriate learning
experiences an appropriate materials, equipment and facilities will
also be selected

Select Material, Equipment and

 The use of learning materials, equipment and facilities
necessitates assigning the personnel to assist the teacher.

Equipment
1. Computer
2. Television

Facilities
1. Projector
2. Slides and
transparencies
 Defining the role and task of any personnel
involved in the preparation, setting and returning
of this learning resources would also help in the
learning process.
Assign Personnel Roles
Implement the Instruction
Actual mode of instruction in which all plans are
being utilized.
The teacher implements planned instructions with
the use of the selective teaching method, learning
activities, and learning materials with the help of
other personnel whose role has been defined by
the teacher.
Evaluate Outcomes
 Examining if the instructional objective
was attained or not. Evaluate outcomes
Refine the Process
 If the instructional objective was attained,
teacher proceeds to the next lesson going
through the same cycle once more.
 Getting the system fixed before entering to
other cycle.

Stage 1: Direct-Purposeful
Experience
First hand
experiences
which serves
as the
foundation
of learning

learned by

Stage 2: Contrive Experiences
Representative models and mock-
ups of reality are being use
Stage 3: Dramatized
Experiences
Learners can participate in a
reconstructed experiences that could
give them better understanding of the
event or of a concept
Stage 4: Demonstration
It is a visualized explanation of fact,
idea, or process through the use of
pictures, drawings, film and other types
of media
 Things are shown based on how they
are done
Stage 5: Field Trips/Study Trips
 Extends the learning experiences through
excursions and visits on the different
places that are not available inside the
classroom
 The learning Experience will not be
limited to the classroom setting
Stage 6: Exhibits
 Exhibits Combination of several
mock-ups and models
Stage 7 & 8: Television & motion

recordings & Radio

learning process. Instructional
materials are not self-supporting;
they are supplementary training

Selection of Materials
Guide question in the selection of materials
1.Do the materials give a TRUE picture of the ideas they present?
2. Do the materials contribute meaningful content to the topic under
study?
3.Is the materials appropriate for the age , intelligence , and experience
of the learners?
4. Is there a teacher’s guide to provide a briefing for effective use?
5. Is there materials worth the time , expense, and effort involved?
If the IM’s is properly selected , is it a guarantee
that it will be effective?
 No , it is one thing to select a GOOD IM’s , it is
another thing to USE IT WELL.
Hayden Smith and Thomas Nagel (1972) book
authors of Instructional Materials.

Present the material
Follow up
Prepare Yourself
 Know your lesson objectives.
 Know what you expect from the class after the discussion.
 Know why you choose a particular IM.
 Have a plan on how you will proceed , how you will
evaluate learning , how you will tie loose ends before the
bell rings ( Wrap up and summarize)
Prepare Your Students
 Set Class expectations and learning goals.
 Give guide question so that they can answer during
the discussion.
 Motivate the students.
 Keep the students interested and engaged.
Present the Material
 Plan well ( to avoid Rog syndrome ) “ROG” means
running out of Gas , it is a result of unplanned work.
 Rehearse if needed.
 Plan performance.
 Try the materials ahead.
Follow Up
 You use the instructional materials for
the attainment of a lesson objectives.
 To find out if the objective was
attained.
THANK YOU!
