Why was it important to do this?
- complex learning environments, with a multitude of designs that support
learning in a variety of ways
- no terminology to talk about differences in the way OpenVM activities are
implemented
- No way to discuss, measure and develop learning outcomes from OpenVM
activities
What did we do? A Group Concept Mapping study
- Creating a stakeholder-authored visual geography of ideas (Trochim, 2007)

What is now possible:
- We can discuss and compare OpenVM designs based on the learner skills
they support
- Further research can look into:
- The measurement of learner skills
- How different learner skills support or inhibit each other
- How design and learner support can be optimised to promote the development of learner skills
in these complex learning environments

Why was it important to do this? - complex learning environments, with a multitude of designs that support learning in a variety of ways - no terminology to talk about differences in the way OpenVM activities are implemented - No way to discuss, measure and develop learning outcomes from OpenVM activities
