Evaluation Question 7: Looking back at your preliminary task, what do you feel you have learnt in the progression from it to the full product?
1. Looking back at your preliminary task, what do you feel you
have learnt in the progression from it to the full product?
EVALUATION QUESTION 7
2. Preliminary
In our Preliminary task I learned that the basic shots we did, we not even be
anywhere near to what we had to do in our main task. However, I do feel now
that it was slightly worse than our main task in its simplicity, and the acting felt
and was incredibly bland, since we’ve become more professional and I feel we
took the main task far more seriously than our Preliminary, mainly because we
had our own ideas and the freedom to achieve what we actually wanted to do,
Overall however I still feel that despite everything, our Preliminary set us up well
for the main task because of the standard we set ourselves, the bar was met,
and now we could try and out-do even ourselves.
3. Difficulties in the Group?
Difficulties in the group were not hard to come by, getting off task was
incredibly easy, and distractions were a constant. All being people who find
most things funny, we often joked around and like i said previously, distractions
were not hard to find. However we battled through and produced a good piece
of work. We also found hard was trying not to break continuity despite trying to
keep that specific thing to a high standard we forgot about it multiple times,
resulting in having to refilm a lot of different shots which I found tiring and
annoying at times.
4. Planning
Planning for the preliminary was less stress than the main task, we scribbled
down quickly a storyboard and went away with shooting. However, sticking to
the storyboard was not always easy, as new (better) ideas were thrown around
quite a lot. So we discipline ourselves and stuck to the storyboard, i’ve learned
from doing this that sticking to your planning is the most important part of
creating a successful edit/film/cut etc. Again why we tried to make our
planning far better in the resultant main task, which I personally think it was.
5. Camera
The shots used in the preliminary were less advanced than that of in the the
Main task, We used basic shots and made a basic short film. After learning the
basics, we wanted to use those in the long term and remember key factors, and
thats why I personally felt that our main task was produced to a high standard
one in which we are extremely happy with. We tried different angles and new
ways of filming so that we could achieve a unique way of filming. Our
Preliminary was nothing too fancy but we are still happy with the outcome.
6. Editing
Editing was our strongest point in the preliminary, we had quick cuts a lot and
tried to utilize as many shots and edits as we could think of. We used quick,
low key music to build suspense this made our piece more visually pleasing,
despite being a 2 minute clip about a man handing 25p for a 50p.
Nethertheless, upon using our edits in our preliminary, we learned so much
about how to create a good piece of work, and I feel we did that in both tasks.
