Objectives of the Project
The specific objective of the NexTrust project is to increase competitiveness in the European
logistics market in terms of efficiency and sustainability
- Objective #1 – developing trusted collaborative networks that have the scale to disrupt the
market by enabling horizontal and vertical collaboration in a legally safe environment,
respecting EU competition law.
- Quantified targets: 23 trusted collaboration agreements involving industry with 10 shippers
- Objective #2 – demonstrating research activities at large scale along the entire
transportation supply chain to achieve breakthrough and disrupt the market.
- Quantified targets: min.23 pilot cases in 5 categories, LTL, Inbound Retail, FTL road, FTL
intermodal, E-Commerce
- Objective #3 – demonstrating high sustainable impact by bundling road freight volumes,
reduce traffic congestion, shift to intermodal solutions, while improving asset utilization and
logistics cost efficiencies
- Quantified targets: reduce the number of vehicles and GHG emissions by 20% -40%, modal
shift reduce GHG emissions by 40% - 70%, Load factors increase by 50% - 60%

First Round: Network of 20,000 annual
FTL movements bundled to 60 efficient
freight lane combination
6.657.074 VKM savings
Average ~ 36,0 % VKM savings
Average ~ 27,7 % CO2e savings
Second Round: Network of 100,000
annual FTL movements bundled to 575
efficient freight lane combination
- modal shift reduce GHG emissions by
30% - 70%
Process is ongoing until October 2018
Following implementation, it will be
potentially capable of removing 38
million annual empty vehicle
kilometers from the road – the
equivalent of driving around the
circumference of the Earth 940
times.
Put another way, it would require
around 1 million new trees, with a
ten year growth timeframe to remove
the same amount of pollution from
the roads as this new FTL network.
