6. EGNOS is the European SBAS system augmenting GPS signal over ECAC area.
EGNOS meets stringent Aviation requirements (ICAO) for all phases of flight.
EGNOS might also be used in a wide range of other application domains.
EGNOS is fully interoperable with all other SBAS worldwide. Provides 3 services
(Open Service, Safety of Life, EDAS).

• IMO recognised Galileo for merchant shipping
• IALA published Guidelines for the transmission of SBAS corrections via marine
radiobeacons and AIS
• 10% Galileo OS penetration in receiver models
• 80% EGNOS OS penetration in receivers models
• ~60% EU tolled roads take advantage of Galileo/EGNOS in 4 Countries (6 in 2019)
• First cars in the market with eCall using Galileo/EGNOS (Volvo and Honda)
• Main car makers are testing Galileo in view of the first highly autonomous cars (~ 2021)
• 557 EGNOS approaches and more than 26000 LPV capable flights/month
• 59 drones receiver models from 14 manufacturers with EGNOS/Galileo in the market.
• EU leading aviation beacon manufacturers develop ELT-DT with Galileo
• GNSS in non safety relevant applications growing fast
• In freight asset management and logistics, GNSS penetrating at the wagon level
• In safety relevant applications: Industry progressing with definition of the architecture
for GNSS inclusion in ERTMS
• End users are showing stronger interest, participating actively to R&D projects and user
requirements definition
10. • 28 RTK augmentation service providers have upgraded or started to
upgrade to Galileo capabilities
• The main PPP providers support Galileo corrections (Fugro (G4), Veripos
(APEX), NovAtel (Terrastar) and Trimble (RTX and VRS NOW))
• Over 50% of surveying and mapping receivers are Galileo-capable
• Around 80% of mapping and GIS receivers are EGNOS compatible

WHAT IS NEXT - HORIZON EUROPE 2021-27
14. 14
Innovative applications, global uptake including international
partners;
Solutions improving robustness, authentication, integrity of
services;
Development of fundamental elements such as chipsets,
receivers and antennas;
Sustainability of supply chains;
New technologies (e.g. quantum technologies, optical links,
reprogrammable payloads);
Next generation systems development for new challenges
such as security or autonomous driving;
EGNSS IN HORIZON EUROPE – Commission proposal
15. 15
Pillar II – Cluster 2 (Inclusive and secure society)
Rationale: […] Full use will be made of available instruments, including the
European space programme (Galileo and EGNOS, Copernicus, Space Situational
Awareness and Governmental Satellite Communications).
Pillar II – Cluster 4 (Climate, energy and mobility)
4.2.8. Smart Mobility: Smart mobility will help ensure the efficiency…, by using…,
advanced satellite navigation (EGNOS/Galileo)
Broad Lines: …use of innovative satellite positioning/navigation
(EGNOS/Galileo);
Pillar II – Cluster 5 (Food and natural resources)
Rationale: […] As these challenges are complex, interlinked and global in nature,
activities will follow a systemic approach, cooperating with Member States and
international partners, with other funding sources and with other policy initiatives.
This will involve user-driven exploitation of environmental big data sources, such
as those from Copernicus, EGNOS/Galileo, […]
