2. FOREWORD
What a wonderful motto to start off a revival
with! Something which has so versatile a
meaning, that you can incorporate into every
facet in life. Literally translating to “by writing you
learn to write”, it stands testament to the fact
that the most simplest of sentences hold the
most complex of meanings.
Pretty much the mantra to success, it expands
its territory to every strata, be it dance or drama,
music or mime.
The only way to perfect it, after all, is only by
actually going ahead and doing it over and over
again, until flawlessness is achieved. Isn’t that
what practice makes perfect means, you ask?
Well, what else can I say, except, no wonder the
language of Latin was the tongue of Roman
gods, riddled with mystery and a tinge of class.
We have sweat, bled and
worked really hard to revive chronicles in its
fullest glory. Hope you appreciate it for where it
stands!
Happy reading!

3. The Renaissance was the golden period of
art and culture and literature in itself. After
all, it does translate to rebirth. This version
of chronicles truly can be stated to be akin
to the same. That being said, it gives me
immense pleasure to write a note to
Chronicles 2.0, the revival newsletter.
The Atrium serves as a great platform for
the students to bring out their expression
and encourages them to do so actively.
However, writing is considered the most
valuable literary expression and the
inculcation of passion and creative
thinking and writing amongst the students
is the objective of the Atrium’s Editorial
Board.
I thank the blooming writers and
those who have responded to the call
and contributed. I also congratulate
the Edboard for their effort in
bringing about this newsletter.
A lot of effort has gone into creating this
newsletter. Hope you enjoy this
newsletter and appreciate it for what it
stands!

4. MEET1
The first meet of atrium for the tenure
2018-2019 was themed
“Expressionism”. We strongly believe
that first impressions are the best, and
thus came about the theme for the
meet, to which Atrium truly stands for.
The ex-core thanked everyone for their
unwavering support. They all got
nostalgic about their tenure at Atrium
and gave a formal introduction of the
present core of the Atrium and
EdBoard. Theevents that were
planned for the day were Channel
surfing and Voice over. A demo for both
theevents was given by our atrium
core members. The channel surfing
event saw the maximum participation
Theme: Expressionism
with laughs ricocheting off the
hall. It was an evening filled with
regaling performances by the
participants and mirth all around.
The voice over put them in a
pensive thinking mode to come
up with witty dialogues. All in all,
our first meet was well received
by everyone.
5. MEET 2
Theme: Pop culture
The second meet of Atrium had
“Pop culture” as its theme. Pop
culture is a part of our daily lives,
from music to tv series references it
has been ingrained in every activity
we do, in order to capture it in the
true essence, the meet was rightly
themed so. As a starter we had the
“Easy-peasy Pop culture quiz”, it
had a total of 40 questions,
comprising audio-visual questions
as well as normal ones. The
excitement was palpable in the air,
and we at many a times had to stop
the participants from saying out the
answers out of enthusiasm. The
shipwreck was a hit, featuring
famous characters from pop-culture
and was preceded by a demo by
the core. The team playing
characters from the movie
”Panchathantiram” were adjudged
as the winners. The evening was a
fun-filled one, with a lot of
engagement.
6. MEET3
Theme: Comedy
The third meet of the Atrium
was themed the “,D meet”, the
theme in itself starting with a
pun. The meet started off
with a game of connections to
warm the crowd up and then the
other events ensued. Laughter
ricocheted off the walls of the
room, as the participants
thoroughly immersed themselves
in the games and the events that
followed. The cherry on top was
the open mic, which provided a
stage for performers of various
kinds of art like poetry and beat
boxing. Since the theme of the
meet in itself was to symbolise
the integral role that puns and
humour play in our everyday
lives, the flash fiction event
had a lot of hilarious
performances that left the
audience in splits. The events
were received with
enthusiastic participation
f ro m the crowd and was t ruly
an evening to remember.
7. MEET 4
Theme: Sale!
The final meet for the second
years was based on a sale theme.
There was a short spell bee on
various famous world brands. It
was absolutely hilarious, as the
participants struggled to spell a
lot of brands that most of us
conveniently mispronounce all
the time! This was followed by a
session, where the
participants opened up on a lot
of their emotions. It was a
greatly inspiring and touching
session, witnessing a lot of
smiles, laughs and tears.
Overall, it was the perfect finish
to a fabulous session of meets
for the second years!
8. MEET 5
Theme: Fiesta!
This was our very first meet with
the freshers who joined the
college this year, it was aptly
named Fiesta! to give them a
cheerful and enjoyable
atmosphere which would happen
to be their first interaction with
the Atrium. We had the highest
turnout of participants, which in
itself added to the exhilarating
response from the audience. Our
main event for the day was
Adzap, where they were given
items out of a whimsical list of
objects we had curated and had
to market the same. The
performances were downright
hilarious with laughter ensuing.
The nutrition drink ad grabbed
everyone’s eyeballs and was the
best act of the day. There were
several other groups of performers
who were equally as good. It was
an overwhelming day with
happy vibes and shared smiles.
9. MEET 6
Theme: Back to School
Memories were rekindled, tears
were shed and the time machine
was reckoned as the meet
transported everyone back to
their schooldays, reminding them
of the innumerous memories like
lunch breaks, assemblies and
annual days. The meet
witnessed an influx of
participants. As they say, the
more, the merrier! The Edboard
was introduced to them and they
were encouraged to pursue
writing. The key event of the
meet was channel surfing, as the
participants danced to the tunes
of the remote, with the
spontaneous pause, play,rewind and
mute adding colour to the potpourri of
fun that the meet provided. The
participants thoroughly enjoyed
themselves and it ended with the core
wishing them good luck for the
remainder of the semester and laying
down the ground rules for the meets
to come. All in all, it was the perfect
ending to an amazing semester!

11. IT’S AME!
I look down at my bag of salted popcorn, correct
that , now it’s caramel popcorn, because Akshay thinks
that only basic people choose any other variety. I
haven’t hung out with him before and I’m kin d of
apprehensive about how the day will go.
We’d only met a week back, and it wasn’t the most
normal of encounters. He was singing ‘I want it that way’
by the backstreets boys in the loo and it was a good day
for me, so I sang along too. We harmonized well, too
well, in my opinion. I say too well because
right after I came out of the bath room stall, he was
waiting to shake my hand and I don’t think he washed
his.
After a very dirty handshake, we forged a friendship
that will be put to the test today. Problem is, he
thinks a lot of things are basic and wanted to watch a
movie no one else would watch. It was this
idiosyncrasy that led us t o buy 2 tickets to ‘18th
century vampire zombies from India’.
So, I clearly didn’t want to keep my hopes up since
the poster had a woman that looked like she was out
for blood, but was too brain dead to be bothered to
satiate that thirst, kinda like my teachers from
high school.
I think the producers were trying to be diverse
because the woman had some bangles on and a
bhindi as well. Curse that fool’s hipster
predispositions. But, little does he know that I think
he’s basic too, mwhahahaha.
Well, Hi, my name’s Nandu and I usually have
conversations in my head to psych myself up for
social interactions like these, since I usually suck
at it.
So, I’ll be talking to you today.
Akshay thinks I’m a ‘chill dude’, but the truth is that I
usually have low expectations whenever people are
involved since I’ve always let myself down by being a
dork. Well anyway, I don’t want to dwell on this and
spoil my mood.
12. See you later and wish me luck, I could use it.
It’s been an hour into the movie and ITS ABSOLUTELY
INSANE!! It’s turning out to be good. Oh no, Chad is
being eaten alive, he was the sweetest person in the
entire group of teenagers.
Huh, I don’t like that he said. He was so patient and
loving, why did he think he deserved to die? Did he not
like himself as a person? Didn’t his friends tell him how
much they appreciated him?
“Maybe, I deserve this” Chad exclaimed.
This is bugging me way more than it should have, weird,
how does such an amazing person believe that he
deserves death? He was trying to protect his friend as
well and that’s why he got attacked. Was he brave or was
he just suicidal? I’m asking a lot of questions, I need to
calm down, but I can’t seem too. There’re way too many
people here and their laughing at the way Chad is being
eaten.
This is getting too much for me, I need to step outside but
Akshay will think I’m lame because of that, I don’t want
him to think that I was scared of the movie. I don’t know
what to do, why are there so many people here?
Okay I need to be rational. Take a deep breath…. that
was a mistake, I think someone barfed in here.
I guess its because I’m not as good as Chad, I’ve been
selfish, I’ve been judgmental, and I don’t think I’ll ever
amount to anything. I’m trying to be good but trying isn’t
enough, it needs to translate to something, right? My
psychologist told me that I shouldn’t think like this but
what does she know?
Then again… what do I know? I’m such a waste of space,
it should’ve been me not Chad. I’m not worth the oxygen I
breat-
“Hey man, can we step outside?” asked Akshay.
13. I didn’t care anymore, so I just agreed to leave.
Finding the energy to get on my feet was
difficult, but I was eventually able to.
“ I just wanted to tell you that I had a pretty bad
day and I just wanted to get away from it all, I
called you because you were there when I was
close to breaking down in the stall that night. So, I
wouldn’t have wanted it any other way. ” said
Akshay
We were back to watching the movie again, I sat
next to him and could hear him chuckling at
someone dying in the movie.
It was Brad, He was a douche anyway, so I
laughed along with him. Sometimes I need to
remember that while I’m drowning, I need to
look up at the stars…

14. ODDBALLS
My name on a bookstand,
I try to hold,
‘You can’t do that’,
I was told.
I turn the pages and wish to be read,
‘No, we have other plans’, they said.
How great are the doctors and engineers,
Lives saved and machines built.
And what about the musician, the writers,
the dreamers?
Their long nights with guilt.
Pride and money on one,
Ardour and love on the other.
Here we are,
Hidden behind the words, the songs,
Wishing not to be seen,
Wishing not to be heard.
Oh, how hard it is to accept,
The lily among the primrose,
The oddball among the routine,
The ardent among the deadheads.

Walking into the gates of

I vividly remember the

When you meet new

16. FAQ’S ABOUT THE ATRIUM
ANSWERED
What is the Atrium?
The Atrium is the literary society of REC. But, here’s something we strongly feel:
just as how the definition of perfection is abstract and cannot be defined within
said borders or boundaries, the Atrium is exactly that. It’s what you think it is.
Undefinable, yet the closest that we can ever get to perfection. So, hop on aboard
as we embark on a quest towards everything fun!
What do we do?
Primarily a literary club, Atrium stands for expressionism as a whole. You may be
a writer,a poet, a reader,a speaker or a thinker.Youmay be all, or you may be none.
What really matters is your zeal and zest to express your individual self, the way you
want to. Inshort, theAtrium providesTHEplatform for all these talents ofyours!
17. What does the Edboard do ?
Blessed with the cosmic power of the pen, we at the Edboard pride ourselves at
mastering the holy trinity: spelling, punctuation and grammar. Forget grammar
Nazis, we are the syntax despots, the paragraph break serial killers, the Phonology
tyrants, semantics sadists and the prosody mass murderers. In addition to all this,
we are on the constant lookout for new talents, budding writers and upcoming
playwrights to nurture under our tutelage and push them towards bettering their
prowess in writing!
What is WoW?
War of WordsAKAWoW is our annual, intercollegiate event, conducted by the Atrium
and the REC Debating Union. It is more than just an event. It is a complete package of
everything fun you are missing out in your boring mundane life. In short, it is the
gateway to enjoyment. As it gets better and better with every coming edition, thanks to
everyone who have worked day and night and nights turned days to maketheprevious
editions what they stand for, we only hope to carry forward the legacy and make them
proud by producing a stellar edition of the same. In short, we aim to make it G.O.A.T.:
Greatest OfAllTimes.
