• According to IORMA and eDigitalResearch figures, 72 per cent of Brits are now familiar with the concept – but without a 
matching holiday, is there any real retail opportunity in the UK? 
• According to John Lewis, 2013 was the year that Black Friday really broke through into the UK’s public consciousness 
• It was not only the company’s busiest online shopping day of the year, it also set a number of records – more than 
doubling the previous record for daily online sales, and tripling it on mobile. During the peak hour, 7-8am, mobile traffic 
was an incredible 14 times higher than ever before 
• Electronics retailer Dixons Carphone anticipates traffic to its sites on Black Friday to overtake Christmas Day 2014, which 
saw over 1m visitors. Smartphones and tablets are expected to account for 65-70 per cent of this traffic, compared to an 
80 per cent peak on Christmas Day 
• “At Argos we’ve upweighted our marketing and promotions activity this year and in the spirit of our new brand campaign,

According to new research from Adobe: 
• Mobile sales on Thanksgiving day this year are expected to increase to 
31%, up a whopping 10% from last year, and will reach approximately 
$418 million. 
• Remarkably, Black Friday will see 26% of shoppers doing that 
shopping from their mobile devices. 
• with the ever-growing size of smart phones, tablet sales are predicted 
to be down almost 15% this year.

• Social media giant Facebook is aware of the fact that millions of 
consumers are becoming more concerned about their online privacy.

need to control their privacy on the site.

Tic Tac Flavour Faceoff 
To increase brand awareness and purchase intent, Tic Tac created a promotion designed to let fans 
determine the brand’s next limited-edition flavor. Fans voted for their favorite flavor, and each vote 
was a chance to win instant prizes and counted toward an entry to the grand prize drawing for $5,000 
and a year’s supply of the winning flavor. 
The target group was young adults from age 18 to 24, the promotion was created as a mobile-first 
experience, making it feel rich, seamless, and entertaining. 
Consumers entered the contest by shaking their mobile devices, just like a box of Tic Tacs, which then 
emitted the iconic Tic Tac rattle. To motivate players, a series of hilarious messages popped up to 
encourage them to keep shaking. 
I believe that this is an interesting and well thought out campaign because the brand managed to get 
lots of people playing which is turn caused more people to join in. This shows consumers are more 
willing to engage with the brand if their friends are engaging too. The campaign highlighted the rational 
and emotional reasons to buy; each flavor assumed its own unique personality, including chirpy Green 
Apple, fiery Cinnamon Spice, and cooling Wintergreen. This made the consumers feel more connected to 
the brand.
Your Local Haircast 
Weather affects women’s hairstyles on a daily basis. To increase sales without the introduction of a 
new product, Pantene worked with The Weather Channel to create a haircast app for women. 
I think that this was a good campaign because it made the consumers feel like the brand was on 
their side and trying to help their hair struggles whilst preparing them for what the day would bring. 
A multi-channel approach, including, mobile, tablet, social, and in-store, was the key to the 
program’s success, delivering the brand’s message when and where consumers were looking for it 
the most: during the path to purchase. This meant that the consumers could access the ‘haircast’ 
whenever they wanted. All the haircasts and Pantene solutions were keyed to specific zip codes 
with styling tips, making the message applicable to every woman’s individual situation. This made 
the campaign feel more personal to the consumer, thus creating a bond between the consumer and 
brand.

In general I think that this is a good app because when you cannot locate something of importance to you it 
creates panic, which is generally ineffective in finding things. You can have confidence in this app that it will 
successfully locate your product.

Worked perfectly! By Atom al ‘Last week my daughters iPhone 5 was stolen. Using find my iPhone app we were able to locate 
the phone to an exact address. The police attended, they also logged into my account to see the phones location. We were able 
to play a sound on the phone from outside the property to prove its location, after which the police gained entry to the property 
and returned the phone to us. Without this app the phone would have been lost. 
Can't fault it! Excellent!!’

About as reliable as the trains... by CitizenMarc 
It could be fine - but it doesn't follow good design and therefore does not do as you'd expect; frustratingly limits 
choices.. and wouldn't let me complete buying process. Too many error / not available reports etc. Needs good 
'export to' options. Worse than useless for reporting live progress of the train you're on

Proximity Marketing 
Also sometimes called hyperlocal marketing—uses cellular technology to send marketing messages 
to mobile-device users who are in close proximity to a business. The market is defined by those with 
Bluetooth or Wi-fi technology, and the message is sent out electronically by businesses hoping to 
digitally connect with nearby consumers. 
How is this being utilised by companies? 
• Major retailers, such as Ikea or Macy’s, can send store maps and coupons or offers to apply for 
their credit card or to enrol in their loyalty or rewards programs. 
• Hotels can inform guests about on-site events and promotions or can offer to enroll them in 
loyalty or rewards programs. 
• Restaurants can send special menus/daily specials, coupons, offers for loyalty programs, or 
perhaps send trivia questions or other games to help them pass the time while they wait for their 
table to be ready. 
• Shopping malls can offer a proximity marketing benefit to their tenants by putting together a 
package of coupons or offer a discount at any mall retailer. 
• Travel hubs such as airports and public transportation centers can provide maps or display ads 
that can be sold to local tourist destinations. 
• General information about a product or service can be delivered through proximity marketing 
even if the fixed location of the business or service agency changes

software is developed for low-power handheld devices, such as mobile 
phones. These applications can be pre-installed on phones during 
manufacture, downloaded by customers from various mobile software 
distribution platforms, or delivered as web applications using server-side

"application-like" experience within a Web browser.

  • 6. Tic Tac Flavour Faceoff To increase brand awareness and purchase intent, Tic Tac created a promotion designed to let fans determine the brand’s next limited-edition flavor. Fans voted for their favorite flavor, and each vote was a chance to win instant prizes and counted toward an entry to the grand prize drawing for $5,000 and a year’s supply of the winning flavor. The target group was young adults from age 18 to 24, the promotion was created as a mobile-first experience, making it feel rich, seamless, and entertaining. Consumers entered the contest by shaking their mobile devices, just like a box of Tic Tacs, which then emitted the iconic Tic Tac rattle. To motivate players, a series of hilarious messages popped up to encourage them to keep shaking. I believe that this is an interesting and well thought out campaign because the brand managed to get lots of people playing which is turn caused more people to join in. This shows consumers are more willing to engage with the brand if their friends are engaging too. The campaign highlighted the rational and emotional reasons to buy; each flavor assumed its own unique personality, including chirpy Green Apple, fiery Cinnamon Spice, and cooling Wintergreen. This made the consumers feel more connected to the brand.
  • 7. Your Local Haircast Weather affects women’s hairstyles on a daily basis. To increase sales without the introduction of a new product, Pantene worked with The Weather Channel to create a haircast app for women. I think that this was a good campaign because it made the consumers feel like the brand was on their side and trying to help their hair struggles whilst preparing them for what the day would bring. A multi-channel approach, including, mobile, tablet, social, and in-store, was the key to the program’s success, delivering the brand’s message when and where consumers were looking for it the most: during the path to purchase. This meant that the consumers could access the ‘haircast’ whenever they wanted. All the haircasts and Pantene solutions were keyed to specific zip codes with styling tips, making the message applicable to every woman’s individual situation. This made the campaign feel more personal to the consumer, thus creating a bond between the consumer and brand.
