Position Title: DVPC Volunteer/Intern
Status: Levels I, II, and III
I. General Description
You will be under the direction of the Children’s Case Manager of the Domestic Violence
Prevention Center and the Program Director. DVPC Volunteer/Interns will have various job
duties that will include: Children’s Support Group Facilitator, Adult Support Group Facilitator,
Hotline Specialist, Transportation Provider, Child Care Provider, Pantry Organizer, and Assistant
to the Service Coordinator, Advocate and Clothing Closets Organizer.
II. Minimum Qualifications
A. Must be 18 years old
B. Able to commit to at least one year of service
C. Able to display maturity, emotional stability, and dependability
D. Good oral and written communication skills
E. Reliable transportation
F. Demonstrate professional dress
III. Training
A. Must complete 32 hours of VSDVAA training through SARP
B. Must attend at least 2 of the 4 In-Service Trainings a year
IV. Job Responsibilities
A. Children’s Support Group Facilitator (Level III)
1. Create and plan a lesson/craft/activity for the children’s support groups in the
shelter
2. Communicate with the Children’s Case Manager about ideas and plan prior to
group
B. Adult Support Group Facilitator (Level III)
1. Create and plan a lesson for the adult support groups (attendees may be
residents and/or community members)
2. Communicate with the Children’s Case Manager about ideas and plan prior to
group
C. Hotline Specialist (Level III)
1. Answer the hotline in a professional and courteous manner
2. Document all data on to the appropriate forms
D. Transportation Provider (Level II)
1. Assist with transportation needs and errands that may arise
2. Assist with picking up the dairy

1. Provide safe, responsible child care
2. Monitor child’s behavior, report concerns to parent and/or staff
3. Intervene if child becomes violent: notify parent and/or staff immediately
F. Pantry Organizer (Level I)
1. Organize the foods and non-perishable items
2. Check dates and discard expired foods
G. Assistant to Service Coordinator (Level I)
1. Work with Service Coordinator in managing the office
2. Help with services coordinator complete data entry
3. Answer phones, file, and general office duties
4. Help put groceries away
H. Advocate (Level III)
1. Research
2. Transport clients to appointments and/or activities
3. Adult tutoring
4. Shadow court advocates
I. Clothing Closet Organizer (Level I)
1. Organize the clothing and separate by sizes and/or seasons
2. Go through clothing and discard any that are stained or damaged.
I. Optional Responsibilities
A. Community Outreach Tasks
1. Assist with educational presentations to members of the community
2. Represent the DVPC at the annual Candlelight Vigil, community and
informational booths, and at fundraising events
B. Volunteer Training
1. Be a guest speaker at DVPC/SARP Volunteer Companion training
2. Assist with DVPC Volunteer Companion training
3. Assist and/or develop and implement in-service trainings for DVPC Volunteer
Companions
4. Mentor new volunteer trainees
C. Volunteer Recruitment
1. Aid the Volunteer Coordinator in distributing information concerning SARP
recruitment at churches, higher learning institutions, clubs, and other
organizations in Lynchburg and surrounding areas
2. Travel with the Volunteer Coordinator to speak at recruitment events
