2. Why is audience feedback important?
The media places a high importance on audience feedback for a number of
reasons.
When they listen to the thoughts and feelings of the target audience the
industry are able to improve their sales of merchandise, music and tickets.
Through the feedback gained on tour dates for example, companies are able
to determine the locations that they should look at visiting that either they
didn’t do before but there was demand for, leaving out the locations with a
lower demand and doing extra dates at areas with high demand.
Audience feedback is also helpful in terms of deciding the kinds of artists that
the labels should look at signing more of.
3. Methods of Feedback collection.
Most of the feedback that companies receive is online, this is good because they can get this
feedback easily, quickly and for free without really having to ask for it. This can be done in a few
different ways.
Comments on YouTube videos can help show the way the audience has received the song itself
and the video that accompanies it. This is very helpful in being able to make more videos and
singles that will appeal to the audience.
Online forums can also be helpful for receiving direct feedback from those who are likely to
go to gigs and buy merchandise. This can be very specific, as it is often from people who feel
they know the artiest quite well, especially as these forums are often on the artists website
itself.
Social media is very useful in gaining feedback, both that you ask for and without asking. It is
easy to create a relationship with the audience and they can easily communicate likes and
dislikes to the company without them even really realising that this is what they are doing.
By collecting information/feedback in these different ways media companies are able to make
suggested improvements and do more of the things that people like.
