6. New England Colonies
Important attributes/characteristics
• Their main resources were Agriculture, fisheries, and
lumber
• The area these colonies were in had fairly poor soil
quality yet they still had many farms surrounding the
somewhat small towns. Despite this the agriculture
business was the top one to be in.
• Fishing was first started (being exported) from
Boston it became a rapidly growing industry.
• Calvinism was the majority of the religious views in
the New England Colonies. Even if some were not
Calvinist, they still had some ideas that branched
from Calvinism. The Church has control over the
government. (Theocracy)

7. The Middle Colonies
Important Attributes/Characteristics
• The middle colonies had a high production of wheat
which earned them the nickname “the Bread
Basket”.
• They were considered the most religiously and
ethnically diverse group. They had religious freedom
which none of the other colonies had yet.
• They had a good relationship with the Natives which
helped their settlements thrive because of what they
learned from the Natives.

8. The Southern Colonies
Important attributes/characteristics
• The southern Colonies had a fantastic
agriculture system because they had the most
fertile soil and the growing season lasted
longer.
• the Anglican Church was established by law
but the colonists didn’t do much to support
the Church.
• They got most of their manpower from the
use of African slaves

9. Effects of the Triangular Trade
• New England Colonies: Were very active in the
Triangular Trade. The purpose was to bring goods and
raw materials from the New world over to the
“Mother” Country to be made into other goods and
then sold back to the New world and other places.
• Middle Colonies: The Middle colonies also had a good
place in the triangular trade considering they had
good ports that they could actively send goods from.
• Southern Colonies: The Southern colonies relied on the
Triangular Trade because that was the only way for
them to Access African Slaves to work the land.

10. Effects of the Great Awakening
• New England Colonies: Possibly the most
influenced by the Great Awakening were the
New England Colonies.
• Middle Colonies: The middle colonies had
religious freedom so they weren’t much affected
by the Great Awakening.
• Southern Colonies: The southern colonies
weren't very motivated to help the church in any
way until the Great awakening boosted their
spirits.

11. Effects of the Enlightenment
• The ideas of the Enlightenment greatly
affected all of the colonies because they
wanted to make a change in their society to
make religion more of a moral factor and a
social norm throughout the colonies.
