2. CASE INTRODUCTION
Manchester United Soccer Club(MUSC) is a football club located in
Manchester , New Hampshire.
Formed in 1992 to bring recreational players to a higher level of
competition and preparing them for state Olympic development program
and higher school teams.
The club currently has 24 boys and girls(age from 9-16) on teams affiliated
with Hampshire Soccer Association and Granite State Girls Soccer League.
The club’s Board of Directors have decided to organize a summer
invitational soccer tournament to generate revenue.
Hosting a soccer tournament is a popular method of raising funds.
MUSC teams regularly competes in 3-4 tournaments every year at
different locations in New England.
These tournaments have been reported to generate between $50,000 to
$70,000 for the host club.
3. Role Of Nicolette Larson
She has recently been elected as Tournament Director by Manchester
United Tournament Organizing Committee for organizing the club’s first
Summer tournament.
She had proposed a committee brainstorm and then recorded the ideas
on a flipchart.
She goes home with a bundle of views and opinions and a headache about
a major task to be undertaken.
She tells her husband about the first tournament committee meeting.
She is worried about event organization and talks to her husband who
advises her to develop a WORK BREAKDOWN STRUCTURE for the
tournament.
