                           of the tundra are very
                         mountainous with snow still
                        staying on the tall mountains
PERMAFROST


      Cryptic soil or permafrost soil is soil at
      or below the freezing point of water
      0°C or 32°F. The soil has to be be
      frozen for two or more years. Ice is not
      always present, but it frequently occurs
      and it may be in amounts exceeding the
      saturation level for that soil. Most
      permafrost is located in high latitudes.
      During the summer time in these places
ANIMALS IN THE TUNDRA:
•   Polar Bear

•   Caribou

•   Arctic Fox

•   Arctic Hare

•   Snow Owl

•   Rock Ptarmigan
Polar Bear
•   The polar bear is a bear native
    largely within the Arctic Circle
    and the Arctic Ocean

•    It is the world's largest land
    carnivore

•    An adult male weighs around
    770–1,500 pounds, but an
    adult female is about half that
    size.
Caribou
•   The Caribou is also known as
    the Reindeer in North
    America

•   Caribou vary a lot in color
    and size and both sexes grow
    antlers, although they are
    larger in the males.
ARCTIC FOX
• Also known as the White
 fox, Snow fox and the Polar
 fox

• This
     little fox is very
 common through out the
 Tundra
ARCTIC HARE
• Alsoknow as the Arctic
  Rabbit

• Commonly  found in the
  mountainous parts of the
  Tundra

• Itsurvives with a thick coat
  of hair and by digging holes
  in the snow to sleep in
SNOW OWL

• Also
     known as the Arctic
 Owl and the Great White
 Owl

• The Snow Owl has yellow
 eyes and a thick white coat
 of feathers
ROCK PTARMIGAN

• InNorth America it is
  known as the Snow Chicken

• It
   is the official game bird of
  Canada
ALASKAN TUNDRA
There are no officially
       defined borders
       demarcating the
       various regions of
       Alaska


   Alaska’s
 landscape
can be very
mountainous
but can also
 have huge
    plans
