2. In the following slides I will discuss the
audience feedback that I received from
members of my A2 Media class when myself
and members of my group screened the rough
cut version of our music video (Professional by
The Weeknd) to the class.
3. Prior to screening the rough cut version of our music video to the
class myself and the members in my group still wanted to improve
the lighting in a particular scene of the music video. We noticed
that in this particular scene the lighting appeared to look yellow.
However, we were not able to control the lighting whilst filming
this particular scene because this was how the lighting was set up
on the premises in which we were using and therefore we could do
nothing to change it whilst we were filming.
4. POSITIVE FEEDBACK
NARRATIVE: In terms of the narrative of our music video we received positive comments from
members of our class who chose to comment on this aspect of our music video. These
comments were as follows:
_ Narrative clear and easy to understand, it also correlated with the lyrics of the song which is
what made it good and easy to follow.
_ One member of our class particularly commented on the effectiveness of the flashback
towards the end of the music video which he felt further helped the audience understand the
narrative as they were able to see “brief snapshots” of the female actors life from a stripper to
a model and it was a “quick reminder” of how far she had come in her life.
EFFECTS: We also received comments from members of our class on our use of special
effects which were as follows;
- Flashbacks helped to display brief snapshots of our female actor’s life to the audience.
5. - One member of our class particularly liked the transitions that we used in our music
video between different shots such as “fade in and fade out”
- Members of our class also stated that they liked the use of the “Bad TV” effect which we
used frequently in our music video. We had recently added this particular effect to the
beginning of the music video and were unsure of the response that we were going to
receive as initially we were not too keen on adding the effect to the beginning of the
music video. However, after receiving some positive feedback on this I am now confident
in the decision that we made.
ACTORS PERFORMANCE, THEMES AND MOTIFS :
- One member of our class commented on our female actor’s performance and stated that
she liked the way she was able to play the role of both a stripper and a model.
- One member of our class also commented upon how our music video resembled/could
easily be associated with a music video by The Weeknd because of the special effects and
motifs/themes (balloons and projection) that we replicated and included in our music video
from music videos that we had watched by the artist.
6. - Members of our class also commented on the motifs that we used such as the balloons and
projection of our female actor’s dancing silhouette, generally the responses we received from
them were positive as the majority of the class stated that they liked this aspect of our music
video. We were pleased with this feedback because we tried to remain consistent with the
abstract theme of our music video and we also wanted to effectively portray our music video
in a similar way to how the artist (The Weeknd) is portrayed in his music videos.
7. CONSTRUCTIVE FEEDBACK:
LIGHTING: One member of our class commented on the lighting being too bright in the studio
scene of the music video. We addressed this issue and stated that we were aware of this and
wanted to fix it. However, it would be a difficult task because if we were to change the
lighting of one scene it would affect the overall appearance of the music video as we would
have to change the majority of the lighting in the music video. Furthermore, we also decided
that because the lighting was a minor issue in the music video as it only affected a few scenes
we were better off leaving the lighting as it was.
ACTORS PERFORMANCE: One member of our class stated that she would have liked to see
more performance from our male actor as she felt that he was lip synching most of the time. She
further stated that she wanted to see some more interaction between our male and female
actors as she felt that this would display the relationship between them to the audience. We
addressed this issue and did agree to some extent with her on having our male and female
actors interact more. However, we did state that the concept of our music video was to have our
male artist play the role of the narrator and so there was really no need for the actors to
interact with one another as our male artist’s role was mainly to narrate the story of our female
actor who progresses in life from being a stripper to a model. We also further explained that in
some of The Weekend's music videos he is not the main focus despite being the music artist
and we tried to follow this in our music video.
8. OVERALL FEEDBACK
On a whole the feedback that we received from the screening of the rough
cut version of our music video was mainly positive which as a group we were
really pleased about. In terms of the constructive feedback we received we
took on board what people had to say and addressed the issues which needed
further clarification. However, we were not able to change the lighting as one
member of our class had commented on as this was out of our control when
filming the particular scenes mentioned and we felt that if we tried to
manipulate the lighting in the editing process it would affect the overall
appearance of our music video so we decided that we would leave the
lighting as it was.
