Making the record keeping workforce representative:
project and literature review

undertake a literature review by the ARA
The aim was to examine any reports, articles or
project evaluations
BAME professionals and gender equality in the
workplace

Methodology

Online, search terms such as BAME, equality, workforce, archives,
museums

Sift of most suitable papers

Not just BAME and gender, but also social class
A lot of papers about diversifying engagement
More available online that I initially thought
Found about 80 but no time to summarise them all – some very long
and dense!

Ten tips for communicating with stakeholders
1. Think about the different institutions you deal with
● don’t always focus on just on one
● start with the ones you have contacts with
2. Link to the policy/political agenda
3. Think about timing - what’s happening in their calendar?
4. Show that what your doing is in the needs of the citizens - core European values
5. Make it short
6. Strength in numbers - not just stats also the strength of a community or group voice
7. Storytelling - tell them a story
