10. THE MISSION
Europeana empowers the cultural heritage sector in its digital
transformation. We develop expertise, tools and policies to
embrace digital change and encourage partnerships that foster
innovation. We make it easier for people to use cultural heritage
for education, research, creation and recreation. Our work
contributes to an open, knowledgeable and creative society.

13. AGGREGATORS ADVOCATE
‘Aggregators have been the lifeblood of the Europeana initiative since
its very beginning, and the Europeana Aggregators’ Forum, which
represents all of them, should make its voice heard alongside the
Europeana Foundation to advocate for the fundamental role of
Europeana in our shared cultural heritage landscape, now and in the
years to come.’
Marco Rendina - Europeana Aggregators’ Forum Chair (2018-2021)

16. WHO WE ARE & WHAT WE DO
A Pan-European network
A Europe-wide network of national, regional, domain and
thematic aggregators, enabling cultural institutions to share their
collections online on Europeana and open it up to new audiences
Connecting content and people
Aggregators work with cultural institutions and collectors to
gather authentic, trustworthy and robust data. They make this
content available to a broader audience via their own services,
Europeana and infrastructures for education and research.
19. AGGREGATION
NATIONAL & REGIONAL
● 23 out of 27 EU Member States have an
accredited aggregator
● Aggregators with a national remit can
be fully cross-domain (e.g. DE) or single
domain (e.g. CZ), can be national (e.g.
NL) or regional (e.g. BE), can be big (e.g.
ES) or small (e.g. IE), can be run by a CHI
(LT) or a consortium (EE)
20. AGGREGATION
DOMAINS/THEMES
● Domains: film and audiovisual heritage,
museum collections, archival finding
aids and inventories, etc. (6
aggregators)
● Themes: archaeology & architecture,
fashion, musical instruments,
manuscripts, jewish heritage, natural
history, photography (7 aggregators)
21. OUR GOALS
● Aggregators are catalysts for digital transformation in
cultural institutions.
● Aggregators offer advice and support in digitisation, content
description, licensing & copyright, media formats
accessibility, multilingualism, and in domain and subject
vocabularies.
● Aggregators foster digital culture, promote open standards
and encourage the free flow of data across borders for
re-use in applications for education, research, creative
industries and the general public
22. WHAT WE OFFER
Aggregators use
standards,
vocabularies and linked
data and promote their
use by cultural
institutions offering
case studies and
translations to ease
their uptake
Aggregators

73. Nationale Strategie Digitaal
Erfgoed (2021-2024)

○ Dataset Register - datasets Digitale Collectie in NDE dataset register (in
ontwikkeling)
○ LOD voorzieningen - inzet LOD Aggregator (in ontwikkeling)
datakwaliteit profiteren, vb: persistent identifiers, gestandaardiseerde termen, linked
(open) data.
82. Doorontwikkeling Digitale Collectie

Via Digitale Collectie:
⇒ Ophalen van data bij de bron:
● Linked Open Data (LOD) - in ontwikkeling
● EDM (Europeana Metadata Model)
