Community life is growing in Dublin’s Fair City. This summer, Fine Gael CLLR. EOGHAN MURPHY,
Councillor Edie Wynne attended three street parties where residents from LUCINDA CREIGHTON TD

put in hard work to organise a party for themselves and their neighbours.
All three were a great success. Added to that was the Harold’s Cross
Bealtaine Festival earlier in the year and the very successful Ranelagh Arts
Festival has become an annual event. “Residents Associations also
sponsored local sports tournaments for children of local families,”

The Deputy Lord Mayor sets out from the Mansion House in the coach, with
two of her grandchildren, to open the Fáilte Ireland Dublin Horse Show

     BALLSBRIDGE
This year Councillor Edie Wynne, in her capacity as
Deputy Lord Mayor of Dublin, had the honour of
opening the Fáilte Ireland Dublin Horseshow in the
RDS, in the heart of the local Electoral Area.
“I travelled with family members to the RDS from
the Mansion House in the Lord Mayor’s Coach, which
is used only twice in the year – for the Horseshow
and on St Patrick’s Day. I found such positive reaction
and enthusiasm on the journey that I have asked the
Council management to consider other, appropriate
ways in which the coach could be used for the Councillor Edie Wynne, pictured with her brother Liam, at the start of the
benefit of business and tourism in the City.” 90th Liffey Swim, in which more than 350 people took part
     Councillor Wynne said.

                                                                                LIFFEY SWIM

currently investigating the feasibility of a phased there to cheer on the swimmers with her brother,
expansion of the network (Dublin Bikes) to other Liam, whose son was one of the swimmers. Well done

Considerable interest is being shown by residents of Ringsend, Sandymount and further afield in the future of
the Poolbeg Chimneys. A number of very interesting suggestions have been made to Councillor Wynne, which
she is pursuing. In the meantime, she has asked the City Manager to enter into discussion with the ESB on the
options for their future. She will keep in touch with you on this subject.

     30KP/H SPEED LIMITS
Dublin City Councillors are reviewing the 30kp/h speed
limit that was imposed in many parts of the city centre
six months ago with a view to having it apply only to a
very small area along the quays that is heavily
pedestrianised. There has been significant adverse ‘JUNK’ COLLECTIONS
reaction to its introduction from many people who say There are many calls for the re-introduction of
that this speed limit makes no sense because it is very ‘junk collections’. Many people have told
difficult to keep below 30kp/h especially when there is Councillor Wynne that they would be
little traffic on the streets. There is also considerable prepared to pay something towards this.

introduction of the 30kp/h limits over a wide area in
the city centre, she strongly supports them being
     implemented adjacent to schools.

This summer, Fine Gael CLLR. EOGHAN MURPHY, Councillor Edie Wynne attended three street parties where residents from LUCINDA CREIGHTON TD Beechwood Park, Moyne Road and Eglinton Terrace and Rampart Lane AND GAY MITCHELL MEP put in hard work to organise a party for themselves and their neighbours. All three were a great success. Added to that was the Harold’s Cross Bealtaine Festival earlier in the year and the very successful Ranelagh Arts Festival has become an annual event. “Residents Associations also sponsored local sports tournaments for children of local families,” Inside Guide... Councillor Wynne said, and would like to advise residents that Dublin City • B allsbridge Council actively supports, on request, local initiatives. • Liffey Swim SUPPORT FOR URBAN VILLAGE BUSINESSES • Cycling in the city Fine Gael has job creation as our key objective. With this in mind, Councillor Wynne has visited with the Fine Gael Lord Mayor, Councillor Gerry Breen, • Rathfarnham Bus each village in our area. Traders were also invited to attend a workshop in Corridor the Mansion House at the end of August. “It was very well attended and businesses from different parts of the city • Poolbeg Chimneys exchanged ideas about how to increase business by innovative marketing in their own villages,” Councillor Wynne explained. “Most people were • J unk Collections pleased with our efforts on their behalf and a number have said that they are acting on some of the ideas that emerged. • 2. Edie Wynne_AUTUMN 2010 04/10/2010 10:48 Page 2 RATHFARNHAM BUS CORRIDOR The changes proposed by what is called the enhancement of Rathfarnham Bus Corridor may be good for Dublin Bus. However, Councillor Edie Wynne has been told by many constituents that these proposals will cause great inconvenience to many people in the local community, from the point of view of accessing school routes, shopping and sporting activities. While a quality bus service is desirable, this must be balanced with due consideration for real and ongoing village community needs. Councillor Wynne has advised both residents and traders to study the proposals and make their views known to Quality Bus Network. The Deputy Lord Mayor sets out from the Mansion House in the coach, with two of her grandchildren, to open the Fáilte Ireland Dublin Horse Show BALLSBRIDGE This year Councillor Edie Wynne, in her capacity as Deputy Lord Mayor of Dublin, had the honour of opening the Fáilte Ireland Dublin Horseshow in the RDS, in the heart of the local Electoral Area. “I travelled with family members to the RDS from the Mansion House in the Lord Mayor’s Coach, which is used only twice in the year – for the Horseshow and on St Patrick’s Day. I found such positive reaction and enthusiasm on the journey that I have asked the Council management to consider other, appropriate ways in which the coach could be used for the Councillor Edie Wynne, pictured with her brother Liam, at the start of the benefit of business and tourism in the City.” 90th Liffey Swim, in which more than 350 people took part Councillor Wynne said. LIFFEY SWIM CYCLING IN THE CITY In its 90th year, more than 350 swimmers braved Following representations by Councillor Wynne that blustery conditions to swim the Liffey for the 2.2km Dublin Bikes should be provided outside the canal area from Watling Street Bridge near Guinness Brewery to to meet the demand for them, Dublin City Council is Customs House Quay. Councillor Edie Wynne was currently investigating the feasibility of a phased there to cheer on the swimmers with her brother, expansion of the network (Dublin Bikes) to other Liam, whose son was one of the swimmers. Well done important areas of the city, including areas outside the to all the competitors who had to complete four of canal. An interdepartmental working group has been Swim Ireland’s open water competitions to qualify for set up to commence this work. this historic river swim. POOLBEG CHIMNEYS Considerable interest is being shown by residents of Ringsend, Sandymount and further afield in the future of the Poolbeg Chimneys. A number of very interesting suggestions have been made to Councillor Wynne, which she is pursuing. In the meantime, she has asked the City Manager to enter into discussion with the ESB on the options for their future. She will keep in touch with you on this subject. Cllr. Edie Wynne_AUTUMN 2010 04/10/2010 10:48 Page 3 30KP/H SPEED LIMITS Dublin City Councillors are reviewing the 30kp/h speed limit that was imposed in many parts of the city centre six months ago with a view to having it apply only to a very small area along the quays that is heavily pedestrianised. There has been significant adverse ‘JUNK’ COLLECTIONS reaction to its introduction from many people who say There are many calls for the re-introduction of that this speed limit makes no sense because it is very ‘junk collections’. Many people have told difficult to keep below 30kp/h especially when there is Councillor Wynne that they would be little traffic on the streets. There is also considerable prepared to pay something towards this. confusion as to what streets are included and which The Councillor has undertaken to do her ones are not. While Councillor Wynne objected to the utmost to have this service revived. introduction of the 30kp/h limits over a wide area in the city centre, she strongly supports them being implemented adjacent to schools. HAROLD’S CROSS At long last! One of the first representations that Councillor Wynne received on becoming a City Councillor was about the wish of residents of Mount Drummond Avenue to enhance their Avenue by having flowers planted around the base of the trees on the median strip. Finally, this summer some flowers, provided by Dublin City Council, were planted with a lot of assistance from one resident and commitment from others to water and maintain them. Now that Mount Drummond Avenue is on the list to receive flowers we all look forward to the ongoing enhancement of this lovely area. In response also to a letter from local residents of The outgoing Deputy Lord Mayor hands over the chain of office to Councillor Harold’s Cross Cottages and adjoining street, the Wynne in the company of colleagues in the Chamber Manager has agreed to send a team out to clean the area as suggested by the resident’s letter. SANDYMOUNT VILLAGE DESIGN STATEMENT The Steering Committee is meeting regularly, but there is a lot of work involved at this stage of the project. When the final Draft has been agreed, it will be made available to the general public for comment for a period of three weeks and the process will then conclude with a Public Feedback Workshop GROSVENOR SQUARE TRAFFIC AND PARKING Following the meeting last June with elected representatives, local residents representatives and representatives of the bowling and tennis clubs, the Area Traffic Engineer has said that she would present her report to the October Council Area meeting and a local public meeting will then be arranged.
