training authority(TVETA) and Kenya
counselling psychologists association(KCPA)

Ginzberg and his associates (1951) divided the
total span of the vocational choice process into
three stages:
a) the fantasy stage 0-11 years
b) Tentative age 11-18 years
c) Realistic stage from 18-30

Basic principles of vocational
development
• People differ in their abilities, interests and
personalities
• They are qualified, by virtue of their
characteristics, for a number of occupations
• Vocational preferences and competences, the
situation in which people live and work, and
hence their self-images, change with time and
experience, making choice and adjustment a
continuous process

• The nature of the career patterns is determined by
the individual’s parental socio-economic level,
mental ability, personality characteristics, and the
opportunities to which he/she is exposed
• Development through life can be guided partly by

to which the individual finds outlets for his/her

ASSESSMENT
• Competence Based Assessment (CBC) is in two
types:
a) Internal – Conducted by accredited assessors
from KIBCo
b) External assessment –Conducted by TVET
CDACC after internal assessment by
assessors picked from other institutions

Theoretical assessment
• Theoretical assessment entail
questions attempted by a candidate
as part of formative and Summative
assessment

PRACTICAL ASSESSMENT
• Practical assessment entails all assignments given
in the course that have to be submitted ,marked by
trainer and presented during the summative
assessment as evidence in the review of portfolio
of evidence.
• The practical assessment also include
performance of tasks in a simulated situation with
fellow candidate OR client in the presence of an
assessor .The assessor awards marks by checking
on the competence of the candidate.
N/B The result/feedback is given at the end of the
assessment to each candidate individually.

  • 14. 7-14 PRACTICAL ASSESSMENT • Practical assessment entails all assignments given in the course that have to be submitted ,marked by trainer and presented during the summative assessment as evidence in the review of portfolio of evidence. • The practical assessment also include performance of tasks in a simulated situation with fellow candidate OR client in the presence of an assessor .The assessor awards marks by checking on the competence of the candidate. N/B The result/feedback is given at the end of the assessment to each candidate individually.
