7. HOW CANCER RESEARCH
TIES IN
rainforest plants have already provided tangible evidence
of their potential with remedies for all sorts of medical
problems, from childhood leukemia to toothaches
Seventy percent of plants identified as having anti-
cancer characteristics by US National Cancer Institute
are found only in tropical rainforest
Twenty-five percent of active ingredients in today's
cancer-fighting drugs come from organisms found only
in rainforest.

8. SAY WHAT?????
fewer than 5 percent of tropical forest plant
species (and 0.1 percent of animal species) have
been examined for their chemical compounds
and medicinal value
once a plant with desired qualities is discovered,
it is rigorously analyzed for its chemical
structure, then goes through clinical trials for
effectiveness and safety before getting final
approval from US FDA

9. WELL...
Today there are well over
100 corporations, and
U.S. government agencies
are studying rainforest
plants for their medicinal
capacities.
But that is not good
enough...

10. HOW IT AFFECTS
HUMANS ON EARTH
Eliminating rain forests is like the prevention of cancer research.
Rain forests contribute to biologically-important gasses in Earth's
atmosphere: they produce large percentage of available O2 on
planet via photosynthesis.
Many plants found in rain forests are known to produce
chemicals/natural products with enormous potential for large
range of uses (controlling diseases, manufacturing, etc..).
Rain forests are aesthetic: These are truly beautiful regions of the
planet, exploding with colors and aromas and exotic sounds, isn’t
that worth something?

believe that if there is a cure for cancer and even AIDS, it
will probably be found in the rainforest.
