5. NURSING SHORTAGE: 1.2 Million by 2022
The Bureau of Labor Statistics’ Employment Projections 2012-2022 released
in December 2013, stated that the RN workforce is expected to grow from 2.71
million in 2012 to 3.24 million in 2022, an increase of 526,800 or 19%.
However, the Bureau also projects the need for 525,000 replacements
nurses (due to an aging workforce). A fact sheet released by the American
Association of Colleges of Nursing (AACN), states that this brings the total
number of job openings for nurses (nursing shortage) due to growth and
replacements to 1.05 million by 2022.
Giving an increasingly ailing population and the fact that people are living longer
with chronic health conditions, This is A LOOMING DISASTER!

13. Newspapers and magazines (non-nursing) have little to no
portrayals of nursing. Both genres do not, as a rule, use
nurses as sources. In Study in Canada found that nurses
accounted for 1.1% of the quoted sources on healthcare
issues.
In February 2007, The New York Times crossword puzzle, as a
clue for RNs, used the phrase “I.C.U. helpers”.
