What is Defensive Driving?
Driving to save lives, times and
money in spite of the conditions
around you and the action of
others. A safety device designed
to keep us from getting hurt or
worse, both on the job and
off job.
Defensive Driving Main Points
Drive with respects for others.
Stay calm & be cautious.
Use reference point.
Leave a safety cousion “ around your vehicle.
Avoid sudden maneuvers.
Seat Belts
80% of people killed in rollovers were not
wearing them.
In a roll over without a safety belt, the body
typically impacts the interior of the vehicles
as it is thrown out.
ALWAYS WEAR ONE
SEAT BELTS CAN HELP PREVENT INJURY & DEATH
Why should we wear a Seat Belt?
A) Seat belt prevent the human collisions.
B) Good driver have crashes too.
C) People are rarely trapped because of seat belts.
D) Seat belt save us money.
When stopping behind other vehicle make sure
you can see the rear tyre.
Watch your mirrors.
This gap is your escape route if a vehicle is
likely to be hit from the rear
DRIVING IN TRAFFIC
Scan and Monitor all space around your vehicle.
- Try to keep gap on either side that you can
use in an emergency.
- Keep your eye moving.
- Avoid staring at one object for too long.
- Practice scanning around your vehicle
every 10 seconds.
- For better visibility, separate your vehicle
that block your view- Trucks, van. etc.
HIGHWAY DRIVING
Avoid lane change unless absolutely necessary.
Always use your signal with ample notice to other drivers.
When merging- signal & move steadily into drive lane.
Do not cut off other vehicles.
Don’t drive in other car’s blind spots.
When changing lane, use both mirrors and a brief
head turn back.
Have the front seat passenger assist you, if needed.
HIGHWAY DRIVING
Allow more distance than usual.
Allow more distance if you are
being tailgated.
PASS WITH CAUTION
Don’t use mobile phone while driving
USE OF MOBILE PHONE IS STRICTLY
PROHIBITED AND ILLEGAL WHILE DRIVING
IF REQUIRED NECESSARY TO REPLY THE
PHONE CALL, DRIVER SHOULD STOP THE
CAR ON THE ROAD SIDE.

What can you do to avoid them?
Avoid eye contact.

Drugs give you false sense of confidence.
You may take your risks than you would
normally, But alcohol slows down your
reaction times to road hazards.

BY DRUGS.
ALWAYS TRAVEL AT SPEED THAT ALLOWS
YOU TO ANTICIPATE AND REACT SAFELY
TO SUDDEN SITUATIONS THAT CAN
CAUSE ON ROAD:
1. Be careful on busy road.
2. Be careful if the road condition is bad.
3. Slowdown if you can’t see clearly due to adverse weather
conditions.
4. Pay attention when you see cyclist and pedestrian.

Obey Traffic Signs & Road Rules
Always follow the traffic rules and regulation.

1) Pedestrian, pedestrian crossing
2) Intersections.
3) Between parked car or behind buses.
4) Near schools and play ground.

Drive slow / turn on your hazard lights when
there is a poor visibility / maintain a proper
distance from other vehicles.

The General Rule of Safe Driving
Drive conservatively.
Avoid excessive speed & abrupt maneuvers.
Don’t drive tired.
Don’t drive in bad weather, If possible.
Take rest breaks often.
Always wear seat belts when in motion.
Drive at safe speed.
Don’t drink and drive.
Be patient, and when in doubt, don’t proceed.
Give correct signals.
Be polite and considerate towards other road user.
Don’t use mobile while driving.
