The document describes the blow room process in the yarn manufacturing process. It discusses the five operating zones of the blow room: bale breaker, axe flow cleaner, step cleaner, multi-mixer, and RN cleaner. It also outlines the five actions that occur: opposing spikes, air current, beating, regulating, and gravity/centrifugal forces. Finally, it provides details on the typical machine sequence in a blow room and important precautions to consider.

3. What is Blow Room?
Combination of two words “blow” and “room.”
Main processes are done with the help of air flow.
Introductory process of yarn manufacturing.
Tuft size becomes smaller and smaller.
Some impurities are removed.
Blow roomBales Lap
4. Objectives:
1. Opening of bales.
2. Cleaning of fibers.
3. Mixing and Blending .
4. Regularization.
5. Lap formation.
6. Operating Zones of Blow
Room
Bale Breaker.
Bale breakers also called bale openers.
Cottons bales are manually opened and then fed to
bale breaker.
Micro dust is removed from the cotton by suction
from the suction fan at the top of the machine.
Cleaning efficiency of bale breaker is 30-40%.
Bale breaker produces a very less loss of lint along
with the waste.
7. Parts of Bale Breaker.
Creeper lattice
Feed lattice
Inclined lattice
Evener roller
Stripper roller
Cleaning roller
Swing door
Suction fan
8. Axe Flow Cleaner.
The major object of axe-flow cleaner are opening and
cleaning. It is used in the blow room after bale
breaker.
The feeding of material takes place by means of air
currents produced by a condenser.
Parts of Axe-Flow
Beaters
Deflector plate
Grid bars
Scroll bar
9. Step Cleaner.
The major objective of a step cleaner is cleaning, but
opening and mixing are also achieved on this
machine.
Parts of Step Cleaner
Beaters
Grid bars
Baffle plate
Trash box
10. Multi-Mixer
In multi mixer different types of cotton are mixed.
A multi mixer also known as 8-fold feeding trunk has
the main advantage of having high capacity because
of its great height which gives rise to the overlapping
and a continuous operation as well.
Parts of Multi-mixer.
feed duct
Flaps
Chambers
Take-up rollers
Beater
11. RN-Cleaner
The RN-cleaner operates in the cleaning and opening
zones.
It provides a full-beating point to the material.
The beaters are arranged vertically
The speed range of the beater is 700-800 rpm
12. Krischner Beater
It consist of 3-armed siders loaded with nail like pins
projecting from the surface. The pin are arranged
throughout the width of the of the arm of the beater.
Fine cleaning of material is done.
Opening is required to make a uniform lap sheet.
13. Scutcher
Opening of cotton to single fiber state.
Cotton cleaning by removal of heavy trash particles.
Regularization of material.
Making of uniform sheet of lap.
Pressing of the sheet and its winding on the lap roller.
14. Actions of Blow
Room
• ACTION OF OPPOSING SPIKES.
• ACTION OF AIR CURRENT.
• BEATING ACTION.
• REGULATING ACTION.
• ACTION OF GRAVITY & CENTRIFUGAL FORCES.
15. 1) Action of opposing spikes.
Spikes are metallic elements.
Performs gentle opening of the fibers.
Heavy impurities are removed in this action.
16. 2) Action of air current.
Used for the transport of material in blow room.
Cotton tufts flow from one machine to another by air
current.
During this process, microdust is also removed by
suction through perforated cages.
17. 3) Beating Action.
This action is performed by the beaters.
These are cylindrical spiked surfaces.
These rotate around a central axis for severe opening of cotton.
I. Half beating point.
The material rotates freely around the beaters.
It is not gripped by the pair of rollers.
II. Full beating point.
The fibers are gripped by the pair of rollers.
This point is usually given at the end of blowroom.
18. 4) Regulating Action.
Formation of regular lap can only ensure the
formation of regular yarn.
Any irregularity in lap will be accordingly sent to sliver,
roving and finally yarn.
Limit switches and swing doors are used to
regularized the feeding to the next machine.
19. 5) Action of gravity & Centrifugal forces.
These remove the heavy trash particles from cotton
through the opening of grid bars.
These bars are present under the beaters.
