HS&E Performance of any Construction Industry is
measured against the completion of project without
any major incident.
Construction industry is considered as one of the most
dangerous trade due to mixture of multiple activities.
Thousands of people lost their lives or suffered from
disabilities annually, which contribute drastic impact on
financial and social health.
Adopting high standards of HSE and keeping extra measures
against the precarious activities during the enormous
construction works, resulted in achieving more than 200
Injury Free Days and 1 Million Man-hours without LTI.

Lifting and Rigging are dangerous activities if not focused properly. Due to their
potential to cause harms, damages and injuries, these are considered as Back Bone of
construction industry.
Observing the HSE Statistics on lifting and rigging incidents in previous projects,
DESCON conducted Lifting and Rigging Workshops on all islands. These Workshops
contained Lessons Learned Incidents, discussion on translated Petrofac Procedure and
Practical Session on Safe Lifting and Rigging, conducted and supervised by Lifting and
Riffing Superintendents.
Robust message from Practical HSE demonstrations stay longer in worker’s mind
and heart. Island Safety Days on Man machine Interface, Dropped Objects & Heat
Stress Awareness were organized at different islands where play‐actors, from the
core of their heart, put remarkable efforts to make Island Safety Days successful and
appreciated by DESCON, PED & ZEDCO Senior Management.
6.
HSE posters competition was one of the best initiative at
site in order to simulate the creativity and ideas among
the workers. More than 30 posters were received from all
islands. The top 3 posters were awarded as Best HSE
Poster by the Senior Management.
Hands are the most useable tools in any industry. Most of the injuries
in the construction industry are related to hand and fingers. Due to
wide use of hand tools at site, DESCON decided to launch HAND AND
FINGER SAFETY CAMPAIGN at all islands, which was comprised of
Hand and Finger Safety Awareness, Posters & Flyers, Development of
Hand and Finger Safety Commitment Board and focusing site
inspection to use proper type of gloves for each activity
Dropped objects have a major input
of multiple injuries / fatalities in
construction industries where the
work at height is involved. 80% of
activities at site are related to work
at height, where dropped objects
and personal falls are potential
hazards, if not mitigated properly.
Dropped Objects & Work at Height
Campaign was commenced at Site.
Dropped Objects and WAH practical awareness to the workforce, Provision of lanyards with
the tools, Provision of wooden boxes at height, Provision of Gin Wheels / Pulleys fitted with
rope & certified bags for lifting of material, establishment of dropped object intervention
and hazard hunt team were included in this campaign.

Earth Hour is an international event organized by the World Wide

5th June 2016 was celebrated as a
WORLD ENVIROEMENT DAY and
ILLEGAL WILD LIFE TRADE is a Theme of
this year which was communicated and
circulated to the workforce through HSE
Flyers.
In addition, every 1st week of the Month
a Site Wide Massive Housekeeping is
carried out at Site including all the
Management & Non‐Management staff
at Site in order to refresh the importance
of WORLD ENVIRONMENT DAY.
