Court declined to ac-
cept Centre’s suggestion for
those who could form part of a
panel to suggest changes to SEBI

laudable decision the court also
did not accept names put forth
by the petitioners in the case. A
bench headed by the Chief Jus-

said that the court wanted to
maintain full transparency and
said it will itself choose persons

also Justice Chandrachud re-

wrong technically but the
decision appears to have
queered the pitch for Uddhav

Thackeray described the poll

he will take the battle to the
Supreme Court which is al-
ready hearing a petition
against its 2016 judgment in
the Nabam Rebia case arising
out of a decision by the Ma-
harashtra Assembly Speaker.
The Nationalist Congress
Party(NCP)presidentSharad
Pawar advised Thackeray to
accept the new name and
symbol which EC will now al-
lot. The advice makes sense.
For Thackeray, accepting
“Balasahebanchi Shiv Sena”
(BSS) and “two swords and
shield” as the party’s new
name and symbol may not be
difficult but he will be at a
clear disadvantage when vot-
ers press the button on the
EVM. It may not be as disap-
pointing as it appears be-
cause Balasaheb as prefix
will be a clear differentiator.
Supporters of the original
Shiv Sena should have no
problem in identifying his
party because of Balasaheb
(Thackeray’s) name. All that
Thackeray needs to do is to
undertake a massive cam-
paign to familiarise voters
with the change.
In Maharashtra the legacy
of late Balasaheb Thackeray
is probably still intact and
that should be taken advan-

B
LETTERS EXCHANGED
BETWEEN NEHRU PATEL...
New Delhi
3 February 1948
My dear Vallabhbhai,
When Bapu was alive we had hoped to meet him together and discuss various
matters that had troubled us somewhat. You will remember our correspondence.
In my last letter I had expressed the hope that, inspite of certain differences of
opinion and temperament, we should continue to pull together as we had done for
so long. This was, I was glad to find, Bapu’s final opinion also.
Now, with Bapu’s death everything is changed and we have to face a differ-
ent and more difficult world. The old controversies have ceased to have much
significance and it seems to me that the urgent need of the hour is for all of us to
function as closely and co-operatively as possible. Indeed, there is no other way.
I have been greatly distressed by the persistence of whispers and rumours
about you and me, magnifying out of all proportions any differences we may have.
This has spread to foreign ambassadors and foreign correspondents; mischief-
makers take advantage of this and add to it. Even the Services are affected and
this is bad. We must put an end to this mischief.
It is over a quarter of a century since we have been closely associated with
one another and we have faced many storms and perils together. I can say with
full honesty that during this period my affection and regard for you have grown,
and I do not think my affection can happen to lessen this. Even our differences
have brought out the far greater points of agreement between us and the respect
we bear to each other. We have even learnt to agree to differ and yet carry on
together.
Anyway, in the crisis that we have to [face] now after Bapu’s death I think it
is my duty and, if I may venture to say, yours also for us to face it together as
friends and colleagues. Not merely superficially, but in full loyalty to one another
and with confidence in each other. I can assure you that you will have that from
me. If I have any doubt or difficulty I shall put it frankly to you, and I hope you will
do the same to me.
I had hoped to have a long talk with you, but we are so terribly pressed for time
that we can hardly see each other in private for long. Some time or other, soon
I hope, we shall have this talk and remove any misunderstandings or misappre-
hensions that may have arisen. Such talks are necessary from time to time. But
meanwhile I do not want to wait for this talk and hence this letter, which carries
with it my affection and friendship for you.
Yours affectionately
Jawaharlal
Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel
New Delhi
5 February 1948
My dear Jawaharlal,
I am deeply touched, indeed overwhelmed, by the affection and warmth of your
letter of 3 February. I fully and heartily reciprocate the sentiments you have so
feelingly expressed.
We both have been lifelong comrades in a common cause. The paramount
interests of our country and our mutual love and regard, transcending such dif-
ferences of outlook and temperament as existed, have held us together. Both of
us have stuck passionately to our respective points of view or methods of work;
still we have always sustained a unity of heart which has stood many a stress and
strains and which had enabled us to function jointly both in the Congress and in
the Government.
Recent events had made me very unhappy and I had written to Bapu when I
was going to Bombay appealing to him to relieve me, but his death changes eve-
rything and the crisis that has overtaken us must awaken in us a fresh realisation
of how much we have achieved together and the need for further joint efforts in
our grief-stricken country’s interest.
I had the good fortune to have a last talk with him for over an hour just before
his death and he communicated to me what had passed between you and him as
well as his talk with HE [Lord Mountbatten]. He had also fixed an appointment to
meet both of us the next day. His opinion also binds us both and I can assure you
that I am fully resolved to approach my responsibilities and obligations in this
spirit.
I agree with you that we must find more time for mutual consultations so that
we can keep each other informed of, and in touch with, what is happening and we
can thus resolve any points of difference that might arise.
We should also find an early opportunity to have a long talk and clear our
minds of any doubts and difficulties that may be there. Continued harping on
our differences in public or in private is bad for us, bad for the Services and Bad
for the country. The sooner we set this at rest once for all and clear the murky
atmosphere the better.
Yours
Vallabhbhai

The relationship be-

ACCUSED PRODUCED
TO COURT, SENT TO 5
DAYS POLICE REMAND
Bharatpur: A court in
Rajasthan’s Bharatpur
district sent one of the
arrested accused, Rinku
Saini, on five days police
remand for interrogation in
connection with the death
of two Muslim men from
the state whose charred
bodies were found in a car
in Haryana after they were
allegedly abducted by cow
vigilantes. “The arrested
accused Rinku Saini was
produced before the court
today from where he was
sent to five days police
remand. The accused will
be further interrogated,”
SHO Gopalgarh Ramnaresh

in the case so far.
AIMIM PRESIDENT OWAISI TARGETS
CONGRESS AND BJP IN RAJASTHAN
Alwar: AIMIM president Asaduddin Owaisi on Satur-
day alleged that “delay” by the Rajasthan government
in acting on the missing complaint lodged by the
family of 2 men in the Bharatpur case allowed the
accused to flee the state. Owaisi alleged that such
incidents occur because “BJP supports and shelters
such organisations due to which police do not take
immediate action against them”. Owaisi on Saturday
met the family members of the 2 Muslim men who
were burnt alive in Haryana. He assured the family
members of every possible help.
Bharatpur (ANI):
Relative of Junaid,
one of the two men
who were allegedly ab-
ducted and charred to
death in Haryana, on
Saturday reacted to
the Rajasthan Police’s
“cow smuggler”
claims.
Earlier, IG, Bharat-
pur Range has said
that Junaid has five
cases pertaining to
cow smuggling
against him, to which
Junaid’s cousin Is-
mail said, “If he [Ju-
mail] was a cow smug-
gler then why police
didn’t arrest him?”
“When there were
cases on Junaid, then
why was he not caught
earlier? Now when he
is dead, they are say-
ing that there was a
case [of cow smug-
gling]. He was residing
here but the police
never came,” Junaid’s
cousin said.
“These people are
only hooligans, who
do such work. They
have just worn the
cloak of cow vigilan-
tes, but they do hooli-
ganism because this is
their only business,”
he added. Earlier on
Thursday, two skele-
tons were found inside
a charred SUV in the
Loharu area of the

POSTAL REG NO. JPC/004/2022-24
Naresh Sharma
Jaipur: Congress’ poli-
tics has heated up after
the resignation of PHED
Minister Mahesh Joshi
from the post of Govern-
ment Chief Whip. Con-
gress State In-charge
Sukhjinder Singh Rand-
hawa has said that par-
ty’s decision of ‘one per-
son, one post’ and the in-
cident on September 25
are the reason behind
Joshi’s resignation.
Meanwhile, after Rand-
hawa’sremark,Joshihas
now fuelled political con-
troversy by raising the
demand for action
againsttheleadersof the
Pilot camp.
On the question
whether Mahesh Joshi’s
resignation is an action
fortheSeptember25inci-
dent or because of the
two posts, Randhawa
while talking to media at
the Circuit House in
Jaipur said, “Party’s ac-
tion is also the reason for
the resignation. There is
also the issue of holding
twoposts.Furtheraction
will be taken in this mat-
ter.” The matter was
there even before his ap-
pointment, Randhawa
added. “In such a situa-
tion, whatever instruc-
tions the high command
gives me, I will take the
same action. I will not
send any report in this
matter, but if the high
commandasksmetotake
any action, I will do so
with immediate effect. I
have done what the high
command asked me to
do,” Randhawa said.
Interestingly
, the state
in-charge accepted that
thereisestrangementbe-
tween the leaders and he
is trying to end it. “There
is no resentment in Pilot,
this is just media talk,”
he said.
Meanwhile, Minister
Mahesh Joshi said that
heresignedandtheresig-
nation was accepted by
the High Command and
the Chief Minister.
“Randhawaconsideredit

en the party and the gov-

obey the orders of the
highcommand.AllIhave
to say is that the rest of
the action should also be
taken soon,” Joshi said.
The Minister further
said, “The decision has
beentakenin midstof an
ongoing Assembly ses-
sion. I had given my res-
ignation before the As-
sembly’s budget session.
I have been saying since
October that I should be
relieved of one post.

suming dual responsibil-
ity, it is better for me to

FIRST INDIA SUNDAY SPECIAL
BY TRIDIB RAMAN
The author is a journalist and political
commentator and views expressed are his personal
BJP leader Mukhtar
Abbas Naqvi may
have lost his Rajya Sabha
membership, may have
lost his ministerial post,
but his spirits continue
to soar. When there is an
uproar over Ramcharit
Manas across the coun-
try, especially in states
like UP-Bihar, Naqvi has
decided to organise a
grand staging of ‘Jai
Shri Ram Ramayana’ in
Muslim-dominated areas,
especially in Rampur’s
Rathonda Kisan Mela.
On March 3, this grand
three-hour performance
based on Ramcharit
Manas will take place.
Many famous faces
from Ramanand Sagar’s
famous TV serial will be a
part of this staging, which
include actors like Puneet
Issar and Bindu Dara
Singh. In this Ramayana
staging, modern technol-
ogy and various contexts
of Shri Ramcharit Manas
are being powerfully
woven into one thread.
It should be noted that
in the same fair last
year, Naqvi staged the
Mahabharata as well. The
historic Shiva temple is
also situated here where
lakhs of people gather
for Jalabhishek on the
occasion of Mahashiv-
aratri. In fact, Naqvi also
performed Jalabhishek by
going to the Shiva temple
during the inauguration of
this fair on Thursday.
Ever since the country’s new President,
Droupadi Murmu stepped into the
Rashtrapati Bhavan, the atmosphere
there has changed. For the officers and
staff of Rashtrapati Bhavan, it is like a
cool breeze, as unlike her predecessors,
President Murmu has broken many
declared myths as soon as she came.
The staff of Rashtrapati Bhavan does
not remember if ever any President has
sent Diwali sweets for them and their
children at his or her own expense.
Sources reveal that ‘the President’s
expenditure on sweet boxes
and gifts alone was about Rs
two to two and a half lakh,
which she himself bore.’ The
staff of Rashtrapati Bhavan
has become convinced of her
simplicity, decency, and ease
of living. She also wakes up at
three in the morning, then
does an hour-long yoga
and meditation rou-
tine, then leaves for
her morning walk
at four, which lasts about a quarter of an
hour. Now only vegetarian food is cooked
in the kitchen of Rashtrapati Bhavan
without onion and garlic. The practice
of non-vegetarian food has stopped.
The kitchen of Rashtrapati Bhavan has
also been asked to be closed by 10 pm.
Earlier, the employees who went home
after finishing duty late at night did not
even get any travelling allowance, now
they have started getting it. The President
is well aware of the fact that the face of
the new India is mostly formed by
meeting the youth of the country,
so to connect with the youth and
understand their expectations
properly, she is also using the
social media platform ‘Facebook’
a lot. She takes time, and makes
short notes for her speeches,
which are included in her main
speech. If the top
changes, surely its
fragrance will
be felt across
the country.
Ever since SP supremo
Mayawati announced
that ‘she will not forge
an electoral alliance with
any party in UP in the
2024 general elections’,
Chandrasekhar Rao has
new stress on his face.
Telangana Chief Minister
Rao wants to emerge as
the new Leader of the
Opposition unit. How-
ever, he has not given up
on his dream. Recently,
he held a long talk with
Mayawati over the phone
and invited her to be the
chief guest at a grand
‘Holi Milan function’ held
in Hyderabad. Rao plans
to meet Mayawati there
and a scholarship will be
distributed to 1,000 Dalit
girls and on the same
pretext, Mayawati will
be persuaded to make a
coalition with Akhilesh.
The BJP has already com-
pletely entered the ‘Elec-
tion Mode’ for the Lok Sabha
elections. If sources are to be
believed, many
Congress
stalwarts are
stepping at the
doors of BJP
to become
‘saffronised’.
The party has identified such
leaders and prepared a list of
them. The matter is stuck on
just timing. Amit Shah is un-
derstood to have asked these
leaders to wait till September,
while Modi wants nothing to
happen before December.
With the success of the ‘UP Investor Summit’, UP
Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has received a
new message from Delhi asking him to ‘ensure the
dates of civic elections in the state as soon as pos-
sible.’ It has been said that ‘his long-pending cabinet
reshuffle may remain stuck
until the civic elections in the
state are over.’ Yogi has been
engaged in a major reshuf-
fle exercise in his Cabinet
for some time now, where
many of his old ministers
have to leave and many new
faces have to get a place in
the Cabinet. In fact, the UP local body elections are
stuck in a dilemma that the reservation formula has
not been finalised yet. This reservation formula is
to be decided for mayors of 17 Municipal Corpora-
tions, Presidents of 200 Municipal Corporations, and
Chairman of 546 city panchayats. It should be noted
that the deadline for municipal elections has ended
on January 5. At present, Yogi has sent a tip to Delhi
that ‘election procedures are being finalised’. It seems
Yogi is also waiting for the right time for himself.
The shadow of uncertainty is hovering over the
Raipur session of Congress. Earlier this 85th
session of Congress was called in Raipur for three
days i.e. from February 24-26. Now it is believed that
instead of 24, the session will start on 25 and end
on 26. Everyone’s eyes were fixed on this conference
because after 26 years the elections of the Congress
Working Committee were to be held. But now, it is
believed that this CWC election will be postponed and
Party President Mallikarjun
Kharge will be authorised to
elect a representative for the
working committee by show
of hands, which he will de-
cide after returning to Delhi.
Of the 23 members of the
Congress Working Commit-
tee, 12 were to be elected by
the AICC delegates, and 11 were to be nominated by
the President. But it seems that there will be no elec-
tion now because there are indications of irregularities
in the AICC list as well. Differences have been found
in the list of about 1300 AICC representatives from 29
states and UTs the list provided by the PCC, raising
questions about the role of Madhusudan Mistry VP
Singh of the election committee, who have included
the names of their favorite people in the list. More or
less similar errors were seen in list of delegates dur-
ing election of the party President as well.

Randhawa’s changed tone has
become a topic of discussion in
the political circles of the state
as two different statements
were made by Randhawa,
in one day. On the issue of
resignation of Mahesh Joshi
from the post of Chief Whip,
Randhawa gave statement in
the evening and said, “Joshi’s
resignation is only on the basis
of the principle of ‘one person
one post.’ We will not take
out Tughlaqi farman. We will
coordinate with everyone and
the decision will be taken with
everyone’s consent. The high
command will decide on the
September 25 incident.” In-
terestingly, on the same issue,
Randhawa in the morning had
said that Joshi’s resignation
was ‘part of action for the Sep-
tember 25 incident and there is
also a policy of one person one
post. Action on other leaders
will be taken after instructions
from the high command.”
Notably, the change in Rand-
hawa’s statements came to the
fore after his meeting with Chief
Minister Ashok Gehlot!

JAIPUR, SUNDAY,
FEBRUARY 19, 2023
One high-shine item, toned down with
other essentials or more muted items, is
possibly the simplest way to add a touch
of silver to your ensembles in 2023. City
First highlights the trending silver fashion
that’ll help you shine out of crowd!
tyles come and go, but
the glow of Silver can
not leave the fashion
world. Silver is a run-
way trend for the
summer and these
looks are clearly reso-
nating with fashion followers.
There are some rhythms and
colour patterns that repeat
year after year for example,
one unofficial rule is that me-
tallics and silvers are saved for
the holiday season, but don’t
receive much airtime until
New Year’s Day. In 2023, that
notion is being flipped on its
head, as silver was a motif
that dominated the spring col-
lections of Gucci, Versace, and
Chanel. This is perhaps the
season’s most noticeable col-
our trend and it feels refresh-
ing following, seasons of rain-
bow brights and saturated
colours. Silver is also a univer-
sal shade that chan-
nels futuristic
intricacy
.
The extravagant party
dresses are on the horizon
for 2023, with silver taking
its usual disco-ball form with
bold sequins and lames. Gu-
cci’s knotted-sleeved midi
dress with white boots was
very eye-catching. There are,
however, lots of less apparent
ways to wear metallics, such
as foil pants or tiny skirts that
look great with plain T-shirts
or knits in white, black, or
navy, and boots or even sneak-
ers. The silver craze is also
having an influence on the
world of accessories. Several
of the famous designs we
know and love, such as Le
MondeBeryl’sMaryJanes
and Gucci’s classic Jackie
bag, appear to have been
dipped in aluminium.
This is also trickling
down to the tiniest de-
tails on an outfit, as af-
ter years of gold hoop
earrings and chain
necklaces dominating,
silver is regaining
appeal in daily
jewellery
. Silver
shoes are an-
other great
option in
shiny hue.

In a laudable decision the court also did not accept names put forth by the petitioners in the case. A bench headed by the Chief Jus- tice of India DY Chandrachud said that the court wanted to maintain full transparency and said it will itself choose persons for the panel. In November 2022 also Justice Chandrachud re- fused to accept a suggestion in a sealed envelope. In March last year even Justice NV Ramana, the former CJI, had declined to accept any suggestion from the government in an envelope. Encouraged by some CJI’s, the government resorts to the prac- ticewhenitwantssomeinforma- tion being made public as was done in Malayalam news chan- nel Media One’s case. Former CJI Ranjan Gogoi accepted an envelope while hearing the Ra- fale case inviting controversy . W y allotting the Shiv Sena name and ‘bow and ar- row’ symbol to the Eknath Shinde faction on the basis of its ma- jority as proved in the legisla- ture the Election Commis- sion may not have done any wrong technically but the decision appears to have queered the pitch for Uddhav Thackeray and his team. Thackeray described the poll panel’s decision as “danger- ous for democracy” and said he will take the battle to the Supreme Court which is al- ready hearing a petition against its 2016 judgment in the Nabam Rebia case arising out of a decision by the Ma- harashtra Assembly Speaker. The Nationalist Congress Party(NCP)presidentSharad Pawar advised Thackeray to accept the new name and symbol which EC will now al- lot. The advice makes sense. For Thackeray, accepting “Balasahebanchi Shiv Sena” (BSS) and “two swords and shield” as the party’s new name and symbol may not be difficult but he will be at a clear disadvantage when vot- ers press the button on the EVM. It may not be as disap- pointing as it appears be- cause Balasaheb as prefix will be a clear differentiator. Supporters of the original Shiv Sena should have no problem in identifying his party because of Balasaheb (Thackeray’s) name. All that Thackeray needs to do is to undertake a massive cam- paign to familiarise voters with the change. In Maharashtra the legacy of late Balasaheb Thackeray is probably still intact and that should be taken advan- tage of by the Uddhav camp. Uddhav should rather focus on the Rebia case which Eknath Shinde camp wants to be heard by a seven-judge. FOR UDDHAV ALL IS NOT LOST By allotting the Shiv Sena name and ‘bow and arrow’ symbol to the Eknath Shinde faction on the basis of its majority as proved in the legislature the Election Commission may not have done any wrong technically but the decision appears to have queered the pitch for Uddhav Thackeray and his team B LETTERS EXCHANGED BETWEEN NEHRU PATEL... New Delhi 3 February 1948 My dear Vallabhbhai, When Bapu was alive we had hoped to meet him together and discuss various matters that had troubled us somewhat. You will remember our correspondence. In my last letter I had expressed the hope that, inspite of certain differences of opinion and temperament, we should continue to pull together as we had done for so long. This was, I was glad to find, Bapu’s final opinion also. Now, with Bapu’s death everything is changed and we have to face a differ- ent and more difficult world. The old controversies have ceased to have much significance and it seems to me that the urgent need of the hour is for all of us to function as closely and co-operatively as possible. Indeed, there is no other way. I have been greatly distressed by the persistence of whispers and rumours about you and me, magnifying out of all proportions any differences we may have. This has spread to foreign ambassadors and foreign correspondents; mischief- makers take advantage of this and add to it. Even the Services are affected and this is bad. We must put an end to this mischief. It is over a quarter of a century since we have been closely associated with one another and we have faced many storms and perils together. I can say with full honesty that during this period my affection and regard for you have grown, and I do not think my affection can happen to lessen this. Even our differences have brought out the far greater points of agreement between us and the respect we bear to each other. We have even learnt to agree to differ and yet carry on together. Anyway, in the crisis that we have to [face] now after Bapu’s death I think it is my duty and, if I may venture to say, yours also for us to face it together as friends and colleagues. Not merely superficially, but in full loyalty to one another and with confidence in each other. I can assure you that you will have that from me. If I have any doubt or difficulty I shall put it frankly to you, and I hope you will do the same to me. I had hoped to have a long talk with you, but we are so terribly pressed for time that we can hardly see each other in private for long. Some time or other, soon I hope, we shall have this talk and remove any misunderstandings or misappre- hensions that may have arisen. Such talks are necessary from time to time. But meanwhile I do not want to wait for this talk and hence this letter, which carries with it my affection and friendship for you. Yours affectionately Jawaharlal Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel New Delhi 5 February 1948 My dear Jawaharlal, I am deeply touched, indeed overwhelmed, by the affection and warmth of your letter of 3 February. I fully and heartily reciprocate the sentiments you have so feelingly expressed. We both have been lifelong comrades in a common cause. The paramount interests of our country and our mutual love and regard, transcending such dif- ferences of outlook and temperament as existed, have held us together. Both of us have stuck passionately to our respective points of view or methods of work; still we have always sustained a unity of heart which has stood many a stress and strains and which had enabled us to function jointly both in the Congress and in the Government. Recent events had made me very unhappy and I had written to Bapu when I was going to Bombay appealing to him to relieve me, but his death changes eve- rything and the crisis that has overtaken us must awaken in us a fresh realisation of how much we have achieved together and the need for further joint efforts in our grief-stricken country’s interest. I had the good fortune to have a last talk with him for over an hour just before his death and he communicated to me what had passed between you and him as well as his talk with HE [Lord Mountbatten]. He had also fixed an appointment to meet both of us the next day. His opinion also binds us both and I can assure you that I am fully resolved to approach my responsibilities and obligations in this spirit. I agree with you that we must find more time for mutual consultations so that we can keep each other informed of, and in touch with, what is happening and we can thus resolve any points of difference that might arise. We should also find an early opportunity to have a long talk and clear our minds of any doubts and difficulties that may be there. Continued harping on our differences in public or in private is bad for us, bad for the Services and Bad for the country. The sooner we set this at rest once for all and clear the murky atmosphere the better. Yours Vallabhbhai The Hon’ble Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru K NATWAR SINGH THE AUTHOR IS FORMER MINISTER OF EXTERNAL AFFAIRS OF INDIA

ACCUSED PRODUCED TO COURT, SENT TO 5 DAYS POLICE REMAND Bharatpur: A court in Rajasthan’s Bharatpur district sent one of the arrested accused, Rinku Saini, on five days police remand for interrogation in connection with the death of two Muslim men from the state whose charred bodies were found in a car in Haryana after they were allegedly abducted by cow vigilantes. “The arrested accused Rinku Saini was produced before the court today from where he was sent to five days police remand. The accused will be further interrogated,” SHO Gopalgarh Ramnaresh Meena said adding that no fresh arrest has been made in the case so far. AIMIM PRESIDENT OWAISI TARGETS CONGRESS AND BJP IN RAJASTHAN Alwar: AIMIM president Asaduddin Owaisi on Satur- day alleged that “delay” by the Rajasthan government in acting on the missing complaint lodged by the family of 2 men in the Bharatpur case allowed the accused to flee the state. Owaisi alleged that such incidents occur because “BJP supports and shelters such organisations due to which police do not take immediate action against them”. Owaisi on Saturday met the family members of the 2 Muslim men who were burnt alive in Haryana. He assured the family members of every possible help. Bharatpur (ANI): Relative of Junaid, one of the two men who were allegedly ab- ducted and charred to death in Haryana, on Saturday reacted to the Rajasthan Police’s “cow smuggler” claims. Earlier, IG, Bharat- pur Range has said that Junaid has five cases pertaining to cow smuggling against him, to which Junaid’s cousin Is- mail said, “If he [Ju- mail] was a cow smug- gler then why police didn’t arrest him?” “When there were cases on Junaid, then why was he not caught earlier? Now when he is dead, they are say- ing that there was a case [of cow smug- gling]. He was residing here but the police never came,” Junaid’s cousin said. “These people are only hooligans, who do such work. They have just worn the cloak of cow vigilan- tes, but they do hooli- ganism because this is their only business,” he added. Earlier on Thursday, two skele- tons were found inside a charred SUV in the Loharu area of the Bhiwani district. Rajasthan Police have made one arrest in the case. Kolkata (Agencies): A man accused of de- frauding a judicial magistrate of West Bengal has been ar- rested from Rajasthan, police said on Saturday . West Bengal police sources said that the arrested is idenitified as Prem Singh. After arresting Prem Singh from Rajasthan, he has been brought to Kolka- ta on transit remand, the police sources said. Thereafter, the caller provided him with the details of a bank ac- count for transfer of the advance amount of Rs 92,000. Mukesh Mathrani Barmer: GemaraRam, a resident of Ra- jasthan’s Barmer dis- trict, who returned to India from Pakistan last Tuesday, has now been sent to police cus- tody for two days. Barmer police had arrested Gemara Ram in a rape case and pro- duced him before the court from where he was sent to police cus- tody. The case against Gemara Ram was lodged by his girl- friend’s father. After Gemara reached India, a team from Barmer police was sent to nab him. JPC/004/2022-24 Naresh Sharma Jaipur: Congress’ poli- tics has heated up after the resignation of PHED Minister Mahesh Joshi from the post of Govern- ment Chief Whip. Con- gress State In-charge Sukhjinder Singh Rand- hawa has said that par- ty’s decision of ‘one per- son, one post’ and the in- cident on September 25 are the reason behind Joshi’s resignation. Meanwhile, after Rand- hawa’sremark,Joshihas now fuelled political con- troversy by raising the demand for action againsttheleadersof the Pilot camp. On the question whether Mahesh Joshi’s resignation is an action fortheSeptember25inci- dent or because of the two posts, Randhawa while talking to media at the Circuit House in Jaipur said, “Party’s ac- tion is also the reason for the resignation. There is also the issue of holding twoposts.Furtheraction will be taken in this mat- ter.” The matter was there even before his ap- pointment, Randhawa added. “In such a situa- tion, whatever instruc- tions the high command gives me, I will take the same action. I will not send any report in this matter, but if the high commandasksmetotake any action, I will do so with immediate effect. I have done what the high command asked me to do,” Randhawa said. Interestingly , the state in-charge accepted that thereisestrangementbe- tween the leaders and he is trying to end it. “There is no resentment in Pilot, this is just media talk,” he said. Meanwhile, Minister Mahesh Joshi said that heresignedandtheresig- nation was accepted by the High Command and the Chief Minister. “Randhawaconsideredit aspartof theaction,Iam happythattheactionhas also been taken and my wish has also been ful- filled. The Minister further said, “The decision has beentakenin midstof an ongoing Assembly ses- sion. I had given my res- ignation before the As- sembly’s budget session. I have been saying since October that I should be relieved of one post. When you made me a Minister, instead of as- suming dual responsibil- ity, it is better for me to concentrateononeside.” Mirch Masala FIRST INDIA SUNDAY SPECIAL BY TRIDIB RAMAN The author is a journalist and political commentator and views expressed are his personal BJP leader Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi may have lost his Rajya Sabha membership, may have lost his ministerial post, but his spirits continue to soar. When there is an uproar over Ramcharit Manas across the coun- try, especially in states like UP-Bihar, Naqvi has decided to organise a grand staging of ‘Jai Shri Ram Ramayana’ in Muslim-dominated areas, especially in Rampur’s Rathonda Kisan Mela. On March 3, this grand three-hour performance based on Ramcharit Manas will take place. Many famous faces from Ramanand Sagar’s famous TV serial will be a part of this staging, which include actors like Puneet Issar and Bindu Dara Singh. In this Ramayana staging, modern technol- ogy and various contexts of Shri Ramcharit Manas are being powerfully woven into one thread. It should be noted that in the same fair last year, Naqvi staged the Mahabharata as well. The historic Shiva temple is also situated here where lakhs of people gather for Jalabhishek on the occasion of Mahashiv- aratri. In fact, Naqvi also performed Jalabhishek by going to the Shiva temple during the inauguration of this fair on Thursday. Ever since the country’s new President, Droupadi Murmu stepped into the Rashtrapati Bhavan, the atmosphere there has changed. For the officers and staff of Rashtrapati Bhavan, it is like a cool breeze, as unlike her predecessors, President Murmu has broken many declared myths as soon as she came. The staff of Rashtrapati Bhavan does not remember if ever any President has sent Diwali sweets for them and their children at his or her own expense. Sources reveal that ‘the President’s expenditure on sweet boxes and gifts alone was about Rs two to two and a half lakh, which she himself bore.’ The staff of Rashtrapati Bhavan has become convinced of her simplicity, decency, and ease of living. She also wakes up at three in the morning, then does an hour-long yoga and meditation rou- tine, then leaves for her morning walk at four, which lasts about a quarter of an hour. Now only vegetarian food is cooked in the kitchen of Rashtrapati Bhavan without onion and garlic. The practice of non-vegetarian food has stopped. The kitchen of Rashtrapati Bhavan has also been asked to be closed by 10 pm. Earlier, the employees who went home after finishing duty late at night did not even get any travelling allowance, now they have started getting it. The President is well aware of the fact that the face of the new India is mostly formed by meeting the youth of the country, so to connect with the youth and understand their expectations properly, she is also using the social media platform ‘Facebook’ a lot. She takes time, and makes short notes for her speeches, which are included in her main speech. If the top changes, surely its fragrance will be felt across the country. Ever since SP supremo Mayawati announced that ‘she will not forge an electoral alliance with any party in UP in the 2024 general elections’, Chandrasekhar Rao has new stress on his face. Telangana Chief Minister Rao wants to emerge as the new Leader of the Opposition unit. How- ever, he has not given up on his dream. Recently, he held a long talk with Mayawati over the phone and invited her to be the chief guest at a grand ‘Holi Milan function’ held in Hyderabad. Rao plans to meet Mayawati there and a scholarship will be distributed to 1,000 Dalit girls and on the same pretext, Mayawati will be persuaded to make a coalition with Akhilesh. The BJP has already com- pletely entered the ‘Elec- tion Mode’ for the Lok Sabha elections. If sources are to be believed, many Congress stalwarts are stepping at the doors of BJP to become ‘saffronised’. The party has identified such leaders and prepared a list of them. The matter is stuck on just timing. Amit Shah is un- derstood to have asked these leaders to wait till September, while Modi wants nothing to happen before December. With the success of the ‘UP Investor Summit’, UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has received a new message from Delhi asking him to ‘ensure the dates of civic elections in the state as soon as pos- sible.’ It has been said that ‘his long-pending cabinet reshuffle may remain stuck until the civic elections in the state are over.’ Yogi has been engaged in a major reshuf- fle exercise in his Cabinet for some time now, where many of his old ministers have to leave and many new faces have to get a place in the Cabinet. In fact, the UP local body elections are stuck in a dilemma that the reservation formula has not been finalised yet. This reservation formula is to be decided for mayors of 17 Municipal Corpora- tions, Presidents of 200 Municipal Corporations, and Chairman of 546 city panchayats. It should be noted that the deadline for municipal elections has ended on January 5. At present, Yogi has sent a tip to Delhi that ‘election procedures are being finalised’. It seems Yogi is also waiting for the right time for himself. The shadow of uncertainty is hovering over the Raipur session of Congress. Earlier this 85th session of Congress was called in Raipur for three days i.e. from February 24-26. Now it is believed that instead of 24, the session will start on 25 and end on 26. Everyone’s eyes were fixed on this conference because after 26 years the elections of the Congress Working Committee were to be held. But now, it is believed that this CWC election will be postponed and Party President Mallikarjun Kharge will be authorised to elect a representative for the working committee by show of hands, which he will de- cide after returning to Delhi. Of the 23 members of the Congress Working Commit- tee, 12 were to be elected by the AICC delegates, and 11 were to be nominated by the President. But it seems that there will be no elec- tion now because there are indications of irregularities in the AICC list as well. Differences have been found in the list of about 1300 AICC representatives from 29 states and UTs the list provided by the PCC, raising questions about the role of Madhusudan Mistry VP Singh of the election committee, who have included the names of their favorite people in the list. More or less similar errors were seen in list of delegates dur- ing election of the party President as well. WHEN WILL THE CIVIC ELECTIONS IN UTTAR PRADESH BE HELD? CONGRESS’s 85TH SESSION IN RAIPUR WILL END PREMATURELY MUKHTAR’S LOVE FOR RAMCHARIT MANAS RASHTRAPATI BHAVAN IS WITNESSING A TRANSFORMATION RAO’S ATTITUDE TOWARDS MAYAWATI ...AND FINALLY MINISTER ‘CHALLENGES’ RANDHAWA TO ‘ACT ON OTHERS’! Jaipur: State Congress in-charge Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa’s changed tone has become a topic of discussion in the political circles of the state as two different statements were made by Randhawa, in one day. On the issue of resignation of Mahesh Joshi from the post of Chief Whip, Randhawa gave statement in the evening and said, “Joshi’s resignation is only on the basis of the principle of ‘one person one post.’ We will not take out Tughlaqi farman. We will coordinate with everyone and the decision will be taken with everyone’s consent. The high command will decide on the September 25 incident.” In- terestingly, on the same issue, Randhawa in the morning had said that Joshi’s resignation was ‘part of action for the Sep- tember 25 incident and there is also a policy of one person one post. Action on other leaders will be taken after instructions from the high command.” Notably, the change in Rand- hawa’s statements came to the fore after his meeting with Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot! —Yogesh Sharma First India Bureau New Delhi : Ministerof Technical Education Dr Subash Garg on Satur- day took part in the 49th meeting of the GST council in New Delhi. City First highlights the trending silver fashion that’ll help you shine out of crowd! tyles come and go, but the glow of Silver can not leave the fashion world. Silver is a run- way trend for the summer and these looks are clearly reso- nating with fashion followers. There are some rhythms and colour patterns that repeat year after year for example, one unofficial rule is that me- tallics and silvers are saved for the holiday season, but don’t receive much airtime until New Year’s Day. In 2023, that notion is being flipped on its head, as silver was a motif that dominated the spring col- lections of Gucci, Versace, and Chanel. This is perhaps the season’s most noticeable col- our trend and it feels refresh- ing following, seasons of rain- bow brights and saturated colours. Silver is also a univer- sal shade that chan- nels futuristic intricacy . The extravagant party dresses are on the horizon for 2023, with silver taking its usual disco-ball form with bold sequins and lames. Gu- cci’s knotted-sleeved midi dress with white boots was very eye-catching. There are, however, lots of less apparent ways to wear metallics, such as foil pants or tiny skirts that look great with plain T-shirts or knits in white, black, or navy, and boots or even sneak- ers. The silver craze is also having an influence on the world of accessories. Several of the famous designs we know and love, such as Le MondeBeryl’sMaryJanes and Gucci’s classic Jackie bag, appear to have been dipped in aluminium. This is also trickling down to the tiniest de- tails on an outfit, as af- ter years of gold hoop earrings and chain necklaces dominating, silver is regaining appeal in daily jewellery . Silver shoes are an- other great option in shiny hue. UTTKARSHA SHEKHAR uttkarsha.shekhar@firstindia.co.in S LET SILVER BE MINE!
